I just thought I would post this; it’s an old subject to be sure but I thought some might find it interesting.

Its a good thing there are no other aircraft on deck.
Wow, that’s cool Subfixer. Thanks for posting that.
That’s impressive
That has to be hard on the airframe.
Probably a big reason why it never went into service as a COD.
Yes it is. It would have been extremely hard to store a C-130 even on today’s super carriers and still have room for a complete combat load of aircraft. It is pretty amazing though that it could land and then take off in the distance it had left.

Video footage is available on YouTube.

The actual carrier bit starts at about two minutes in.
Wow David! Thanks for that link, I’ve only seen the stills until now. This is very much appreciated.
Cool vid!
A nice shot in there of a pair of FJ-1 Furys refueling too.

It surely would have been impossible for the Herc to deploy with the carrier. I believe the intent was for the C130 to, in emergency situations, deliver oversize cargo or deliver out to long distances.
Interestingly, that longer video states that the C-130 could have done landings and takeoffs from the angled deck. That would allow a few aircraft to remain on deck out at the bow.
I suppose this is still be a viable option in a wartime emergency (who knows, it may have actually been done for some clandestine operation).
Gotta love the Mighty Herky Bird! [8D]
