i happened upon a die cast model of a c-130 hercules while visiting a local hobby store. it was painted for the united states navy but instead of the usual grey or green camo, the plane was white, orange, and yellow. under the wings were target drones, so obviously this aircraft was used to assist in training. i really liked the paint scheme and was wondering if anyone out there had any additional information on it and if there is a kit/decals for this particular aircraft. any help is appriciated.
I’ve got the feeling Italeri released that particular drone-carrying variant with the hi-viz scheme… I’m talking years and years ago though…
ok cool thanks. ill look for it and maybe get lucky.
Italeri did indeed have a DC130 of sorts about20 years ago.
I bought 1 and did it as an Israeli trucker, I may even still have the drone kits in a box somewhere.
Italeri did indeed release a DC-130 in 1/72 scale (wish I’d have gotten one… [:(] ); IIRC, it was supposed to be a Navy DC-130A. The Navy DC-130As are subtly different from later models of the aircraft, the most notable being three bladed propellers and a fourth window on the fuselage forward of the nose landing gear. If you need further help, just send me an email… I was a C-130 crew chief for 20 years.
Hope this helps!
Italeri’s DC-130 has been re-released fairly recently. I saw a stack of about 6 of them at LHS late last summer. [alien]
I’m sure everyone remember the famous early '70s test of the F-14 fire control system, in which six targets were acquired at once and five were destroyed with Phoenix missiles, the sixth being a near-miss. There is a standard piece of film shown when this test is mentioned in documentaries, which we’ve all seen, and it always shows a couple of Firebees going up and a QT-33A being blown to smithereens. I wonder, however, if those are actual clips from the test. I wonder how the drones were launched and controlled for that famous demonstration. And exactly which six types of aircraft were used for the bad guys. Does anyone know?

I am looking for a DC-130 model with the dronesI was in the 22TDS when it closed down & I would like to have the model. I have pictures of the 130s the helicopters and the Wing Commander standing by the Drone.
An Italeri DC130 was just ended on E-Bay just last night
I was watching it but the price was going too high.
Are there still DC130s painted this way?,in high viz?
I could swear last week I saw one flying south of Burbank airport along the mountains on its way to Point Mugu
On my scanner there was an aircraft flying around with a “Navy Bloodhound” callsign that Point Mugu uses.
Happy Modeling

Point Mugu still has one on its books.
There is an article in this months Air Forces Monthly on Mugu with a photo of the DC130
I have a DC-130 built in 1/48th scale from italeri , got it off e-bay 2 yrs ago paid 80.00 for it plus shipping , however due to mishandling at a local contest it was severely damaged , however I kept what was left of my model as a reminder it took me approx
65hrs to build that beauty , I just recently purchased a1/48th e model hercules to take its place which I plan on building real soon in modern colors . you can find 1/48th scale hercules every now and then on E-bay but the prices get outrageous sometimes .
