I’m looking for a C-123 kit to use in my NKP dio. [banghead][banghead]Any help?
A couple of us just discovered this information, so I’ll pass it on to you. There are reports of poor quality from the Mach2 company, so I included a picture of the kit on the tree, with a link to the company’s page on the C-123.
Found the other one (in 1/72 scale no less)… a company called “Mach 2” out of France…

Here’s Mach 2’s article about it…

Good luck,

I have the Mach 2 C-123 kit, and have been building it off and on for the past few years (more off than on!). It’s been a slow process, because I’m trying to scratch build the non-existent interior, since I want to display it with the ramp down. The kit will take some (okay, a lot) of TLC to make it into a decent model–parts are short-shot, there are a lot of gaps, and the engraving of the panel lines is uneven (meaning it’s nice and deep some places, but faint and shallow other places.
There is another C-123 kit out there, which I believe is also 1/72nd scale but vacuum-formed (someone correct me if I’m wrong). I haven’t seen it, but if I’m not mistaken it’s supposed to be rare, expensive, and even more difficult than the Mach 2 kit to build. I heard rumor through FSM that a newly tooled kit is supposed to be released by Special Hobby (I believe), but there is nothing on their website about this. Personally, I would love to see a new, quality kit of this plane. It’s close to my heart since my dad flew it in Vietnam.
By the way, there is a very nice build up of a Mach 2 C-123 in a Replic magazine issue from a few years ago–proving that the kit can look great in the end. Unfortunately, the text is in French, which I can’t speak nor read.

I beleive the vacuformed C-123 is made by Airmodel. It would probably take as much work as the Mach2 kit as Airmodel isn’t known for their quality.
Thanks for the info. 37 Euros is a lot for a ‘so-so’ kit and that doesn’t include S/H with possible Customs tax. You’d think a company closer to home would make this kit.
I spent some time at NKP kickin’ flares over the trail. Wasn’t as much fun as you might think.[(-D][(-D]
