Just finished this afternoon is my attempt at the Hasegawa 1/48 Kawanishi N1K2-J Shidenkai, Allied code name “George”. This is the new tool version with recessed panel lines and very nice detail. Built OOB, painted with ModelMaster enamels, aftermarket decals. Weathered a bit with a wash to accent panel lines and some restrained chipping using a PrismaColor silver pencil.
Just got my first Digital Camera yesterday, so thought I’d try it out & post the pics. I’ve never used a digital camera before, so still on the bottom of the learning curve. Thanks for looking, all comments welcome.
Madda, Dave, Pix, Don, Karl, J-Hulk, falcon039, Thanks for the feedback & comments. Glad you liked it.
Pix, after priming, I sprayed the spinner overall white using Floquil Reefer White. Sliced a thin strip of Tamiya masking tape and kinda stretched it around the spinner using the prop openings as a guide to keep it even. Then masked off the rest of the tip and sprayed the back half with ModelMaster IJNAF Green enamel, being careful to spray slightly away from the tape edge. Finished it off, after curing, with a shot of Future.
I have the Tamya mid wing version sitting on the shelf.Kit looks good so far but I haven’t started it yet.Still trying to make my R/G B-58 fit together.I hope my George turns out as nice as yours.Your weathering looks just right, great job.
Awesome plane. Nothing wrong with your picture taking either [tup]. I have been looking for a silver pencil (for drawing on paper)that will stick to matt enamel surfaces, but have been unsuccesful sofar. The artists’ supply store personnel just looked at me funny when I asked, lol. I resorted to using silver markers, but I find they are a bit crude, especially on the smaller scales. Could you tell me how you used your pencil to get such a subtle finish?
Easyco, mkee, dogsbody, jay, Butch, James, Chris, djmodels, Filibert, Thanks all for the feedback & comments. Glad you liked it, I enjoyed building it.
Easyco, the antennae wire is 2 lb. monofilament fishing line. Mine is from a Co. named Berkley and the brand name is Trilene. You get a 110 yards for $3.00, so it’s economical and stronger than stretched sprue.
Filibert, Around here, Prismacolor pencils are commonly available in art & craft supply stores. They are actually an oil based medium in pencil form and come in a wide variety of colors. They work great on flat finishes, but not so great on gloss finish. I just sharpen the tip and sorta drag it along panel lines where I want chipping. Then go back and add more as the mood strikes me. It doesn’t give a peeling paint effect, but does show the type of chipping seen on real AC from maintenance and pilot egress.
