Buying/Selling and Other "Forum Guidelines" info

Aaron, Matt, Meagan, et al

Judging from the number of times the new folks (AND some “old salts”, for that matter) do it, I think it would behoove y’all to “Sticky” a post at the TOP of each page in EACH of the model category forums and also in “Odds & Ends” and “General Modeling”… At least once a week, I or someone else has to tell a Nugget that they aren’t allowed to advertise kits for sale or wanted to buy without buying ad space here…

Through no real fault of their own, Newbies can’t/don’t read the “Forum Guidelines”, simply because they can’t see it until they discover the “Sorting and Filtering” function, and they (the guidelines) don’t show since the post is over 6 months old and which also appears to be the default setting for filtering posts…

Whattaya say?

Ok, I’ll bite.

I agree with the above regarding people posting “for sale” items in the forums.

Another one that pops up from time to time is people failing to check the date on a post or thread before replying.

Occasionally you will see a post dredged up from the depths by a new guy trying to be helpful, saying they’ve got what the OP needs, telling them where they can get it or how to do it, without realising that the OP posted the request/question in April 2004 and hasn’t been back since May 2004.

Resurrecting a dead thread can often suck others into replying to someone who will never see the reply. I will, however, concede that it may help someone else who is looking for the same information.

So please, check the date on the last post before replying.

Shameless bump…

Hans-

The guidelines were updated last week to appear in the ‘Guidelines’ section without having to adjust the sorting and filtering.

Thanks for the suggestion!

As with some forums, a new member must read through the TOS and sign off on it before one can continue the mbrshp process. An opt in as it were.

Thanks fer lookin’ into it, Meagan…
