I am currently building the DS9 Defiant and it is currently on hold while I finish my vaccuum former. I am lighting it with light sheet and fiber optics. And have replaced the molded in window bays on the underside with photo etched ones I made at home.
I have some pic’s some where, if I can’t find them I will take new ones and post. Should be quite nice when done.
Just curious as to if anyone has done something similar.
Next will be the DS9 Station or one of the Star Wars/Star Trek ship models.[:D]
Well I also have a partialy completed Defiant. When it came time to fill seams it was put away and has not seen the light of day for about 3 or 4 years now. FYI - The DS9 kit seems to have a common problem with the habitat ring being warped when the upper and lower halves are glued together.
That is good to know. I am kinda scared of DS9 it since I want to light it up and there are about a zillion port holes of various sizes and shape on it. Hundreds of feet of fiber optic, etc.
Yeah, the seems on the Defiant are a pain, but I wa able to effectively hide the window bay implant seems so I think it will just be a butt load of persiverance on my part when it comes time to seal it up. I am worried about the painting of it.
I could paint prior to buttoning it up, then fill seems, etc. Then repaint the body work. But no matter how hard I try I always seem to get a slight shift in paint hue/shade. But with weathering all things are possible.
i am currently working on the defiant ( amoung several other vessals) and would love to see your completed ship, with some detail;s as to how you did it.

Not a problem. I will try to get some pic’s this weekend of where I am at. Currently it is on hold whilst I finish my vaacuum former. I need that to make a couple of parts.

Believe it or not when I started it I was planning on writing an article to see if they would use it, even started it. But then job changes, etc got in the way and it is still about only 75% done. And I have to restart the article.
Here are a few pictures of theUSS Defiant that I have been working off and on for the last few years. I am about 75% done.
The window bays are photo etchings I did at home. I cut out just about every opening that had light coming out of it in the show or was a recessed area. The engines will have the correct color lighting, fiber optic for the small port holes, phaser/photon torpedo tubes, and navigation lights. The interior lighting for the large window bays as well as the fiber optic and engines will be via lightsheet.
I’ll post the pic’s as well for those who don’t want to keep closing internet windows.

Did you know the Defiant was named after a ship in Star Trek T.O.S.?

I hadn’t thought of it, but yes, I realize that now. That was the one that was caught in space time and Kirk got caught on board when it phased out completely and the Enterprise was trapped by those little ships weaving a grid around her. I think that is the episode.
