hi everyone, i am returning modeler at 55 and have missed so much. if i am building an armor model, do i paint first, then try to glue all the small pieces or build then paint. if i have to go back to basics, can anyone reccomend a good book? thankyou, russ
I think current conventional wisdom is to paint anything that CAN’T be easily painted after assembly first, saving the big external painting for last (or at least last-befroe-marking-and-weathering).
Kalmbach had a book (or collection of articles from FSM) called How to Build Armor Models, or something like that, that seems to be out of print, but you can probably find it on eBay or maybe at your library. A newer publication is Carl McLaughlin’s How to Model World War II German Armor, if that’s your interest. And they have a Basics of Scale Modeling that might be right up your alley.
Welcome back!
Hi Squid: welcome back. The book I recommend is Kalmbach Publ “How to Build Realistic Tanks and Artillery” Good photos and clear technique description
