building first plane ever

hello all. I just picked up a F4U-1 Corsair 1/72 scale and would appreciate any suggestions on build. I normally do cars and such, but couldn’t resist the price on this one…5 bucks… It is a testors model, kit # 623… I normally use Tamiya acrylics on my cars, do they make the paints I will need for this? Thanks all… Shane

[#welcome] to the forum. Wingie thingies are much better than ground bound beasties.
You have airplanes and then you have targets. Corsairs wore several different color schemes through out their illustrious career. Medium Blue over gray, dark blue over medium blue, over gray, all during WWII and all dark blue during Korea. Check some references and pick your colors. They are probably available in enamel and acrylics both.

yardbird…thanks for info… any good online reference spots to look for. Thanks again , Shane

Welcome to the A/C forum! Yeah, just take your time with it. Make sure to wash it good, clean-up the parts ( if they need it) and go real easy on the glue. Don’t sweat it if you have to use a little filler. Your first aircraft w/o the seams is a real prize! If ya get stuck or have any questions at all don’t be afraid to ask someone in here. - Calvin

Best of luck with your first build.

You’re in the best place for help and advice with problems.

[#welcome] to the wonderful word of AC! I really hate to be a party pooper, but I’ll have to say that Testors kit is, frankly, a pain in the [censored] to work with. No interior, stuff doesn’t line up… well, maybe that stuff’s important to me, but it might be fine for you. If there’s a pilot figure (I think there is) I reommend using it, just becuase it’d be easier than trying to scratchbuild an interior, especially for your first AC.

Other than that, all I can say is listen to the other guys here. Go easy on the glue, line stuff up, and get used to sanding. The hardest part of AC is keeping them “clean” enough to look real. Oh yeah, and the most important part-

HAVE FUN!!! [8-][8-][8-][8-]

[#welcome] to the aircraft forum, keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome aboard!!! [:)]

[#welcome] to the forum !!

If you really like Corsairs, and you make 1/72 kits, you should really try the Tamiya kit. Really nice detail and weapons. Mine is WWII, but has an all Navy Blue colour.

Cheers,

Jürgen

welcome shane! good luck on your first aircraft!
