I have put my Naboo fighter conversion on hold while I wait for a tool I ordered to get in.
In the mean time I would like to detail the small AT-AT from AMT/ertl’s Battle of Hoth Action Scene. Are there any good reference pictures available with out having to buy “Star Wars Chronicles” or is it the only way to go? Any good websites?
Here’s a picture of the AT-AT from the Hoth Battle Sence. All 8 pieces stuck together with tape, about to step on a 1/4 oz. bottle of paint. Needs a lot of help like “toes” on the feet, new guns instead of the molded blobs, detail on the inside of the “legs” and much more.
Any other sites or books with pictures, drawings or blueprints out there?
cool!!!I am sure it will look good!Hear is a thought you can take a piece of string and tie onto the back of the snow speeder and the other end on the leg of the at-at then pose the snow speeder like it is flying around the legs! e-mail me a www.stukah@yahoo.com and tell me what you think.sincerly -brad good luck![:D]
I just think this kit can be detailed to make it a much finer model. I am trying to work on my scratch building, detailing and modifying skills, as I have been an OOB type builder. I am even thinking about casting new “feet” for the walker.
There is a second AT-AT with the Hoth scene, which may get the same treatment and use in a diorama.
Triva question: Without watching the ESB or looking in a book, what was the name of the pilot that flew the Snow Speeder that harpoons and trips the AT-AT in the movie?
I promise not to bore you by posting this work in progress every step of the way here, but your welcome to follow along at my website if your interested.
Hey Brad, Yes I do work in a hobby shop…a RC shop, no plastics.[:(]
I haven’t been building Sci-Fi until recently, mostly I build aircraft, but enjoy building all subjects so I guess I kind of rare in that respect.
My AT-AT came from the AMT/Ertl Star Wars Battle of Hoth Action Sence. It is kit number 8743. The kit is out of production. I found mine on closeout a few years ago from an online shop, some may still have them. You can find them pretty reasonably priced on your favorite online auction site but it’s fairly big so watch the shipping cost. There may still be one on your LHS shelf as I don’t think they were very popular kits.
James, it is a very good idea to put them together (Rebel Base and Battle of Hoth). I built the Rebal Base few months ago: http://pages.videotron.com/jfp/swgallery/esb/MPC_REBELBASE.html Theses two kits are very funny and look like a big diorama. I will probably post new pictures on my web site next week.
Grandpa, I will look your web site to see your work in progress [8D]
Sunkist, I won’t get to far right away because I’ll be involved in the Budget Group Build Challenge starting July 26th and will be gold mining (yep, digging for the yellow metal) the next two weekend.
Keep checking in, I’ll try and keep the site updated.
I had something like that when I was a youngster. Looking at the page linked above, it had to have been a variation. Since it was before 1995, I’m thinking it was the kit named “Battle On Ice Planet Hoth”. I remember thinking that was such the coolest thing. I wonder if my kids would think the same – might have to keep an eye open for that one. [:)]
I also had something similar, but made for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Many, many hours of fun with those.
Like wow man, bet you thought you never see this post again.
In order to build the little At-At accurately I have picked up a few pieces of reference material. I have decided to dissect it even more and give it a more interesting stance. Now I just have to stop committing to GB’s so I can get back to work on it.
Now lets see,
Battle of Hoth Action Scene $5.99
Star Wars Chronicles $69.00
Star Wars Technical Journal $5.00
Star Wars Essential Guide $1.00
Lathe (for building accurate under carriage) ~$400.00
Going overboard on a model build…Priceless!
I built a snowspeeder and used Cobra/Apache helicopter pilots 1/30something scale. I painted it up with the 2 marks for “Red 2”, so that dictated that I paint the pilot’s helmet like Wedge, and the gunner’s helmet like Jansen. Jansen’s helmet has that awesome checkered blue pattern.
The co pilot with Luke was Dak.
I’m thinkin’ Luke told Wedge & Jansen to fire the tow cable. So Jansen is the man who fired it, and Wedge is the pilot.
The Empire sure knew how to make an entrance! I wonder how many of those rebel scum messed there pants when they felt the ground shake and those AT-AT’s appeared on the battle field! LOL
I see were you said $400 for a lathe. Did you get one?
Yay! & I didn’t cheat heheh. Now I wanna get a photobucket account & show pics of my pilots
Now to references for model building…
One of my main references for Star Wars stuff is the CD “Behind the Magic”. I also have the 3-volume magazine set called Star Wars Technical Journal. It has very good At-At pics in it.
