building an armored m1025 hmmwv with ASK armor

hi everyone, im building a m1025 hmmvw with ASK armor, most of it is going to be from scratch. i need some help with the following

where should the small windows on the doors sit and whats the length and width of them in 1/35 scale?

how do i make the suspension noticably lower?

are the windows all up armored, how thick are they?

do all 4 of the seats have armored seat backs?

is the back of the humvee’s back wall(the trunk thingy that can open and close) armored as well

and last but not least do all the humvees with ASK armor differ?

thanks and hope im not askin for too much

calvin

p.s where can i get a m249 SAW individually?

Hey, by any chance did you see the article in FSM with this build? It was more or less a step by step, not too much of the measurments as far as I remember, but if you’d be ok with a basic “eyeballing” of the proper locations

He uparmored the windshild by cutting off the molded on center bar and resetting it in deeper, I think everything else was sheet styreen and some thick clear acrylic sheet for windows-

as for a SAW by itself… that might be hard- the one he used in the article was a Trumpeter kit

the three modern desert kits look like they all have the same SAW- Trumpeter- Modern Desert figures

however- note the stock will have to be scratched to look like the americanized version- easier said than done

I tried and mine came out so poorly I decided to scrap my attempt at the solid stock and go for the colapsable airborne stock

(from this (FN version -I think?- that Trump gives you OOB) link to this link to this link)

good luck- I’m sure someone can help point you in the right direction better than I did, if you need the FSM article in question let me know I’ll take some pictures of it (dont have a scanner with me) and email them to you, send me a PM if you want.

Some answers.

how do i make the suspension noticably lower?

You have to cut it apart and remove a section of spring from each A-arm assembly, then reassemble it. You only need to remove about 1 mm form each spring.

are the windows all up armored, how thick are they?

Yes they are. The actual glass is about 2 inches thick.

do all 4 of the seats have armored seat backs?

Yes.

is the back of the humvee’s back wall(the trunk thingy that can open and close) armored as well

No, it is a standard rear hatch, which already has Kevlar spall liner on it. Also, the angle of the hatch gives it some ballistic qualities to deflect rounds.

and last but not least do all the humvees with ASK armor differ?

It is a standard kit, but the paint jobs and some smaller details do differ. Once the units get a hold of them, they tend to customize them to their needs as well.

p.s where can i get a m249 SAW individually?

I think Blast has a set with one or two in resin. They are pricey though. The Dragon Modern US Special Forces figure set has the newer version with the solid stock on it, and some other nice weapons.

Good luck.

From the Dragon box art it looks more like an M240 as opposed to the M249

More likely than not- in 1/35 scale, pretty interchangable IMO- also the M240 is commonly mounted on vehicles if I’m not mistaken- not sure if the ASK upgrade is only compatible with a SAW? Or if it has some kind of universal mount…

Here’s a Blast kit- not sure if it’s the one Gino was talking about

I think it comes out to around $22 before shipping? Not a bad looking set though- link

I am positive the weapon in the SF kit is an M249 SAW. I have built it.

The weapons mount on an M1025 can mount a variety of weapons, the M240 is one of them. The weapons mount is independant of the ASK, so that is not an issue.

thanks guys once my reference book and stowage along with the PE come in ill post some WIP pictures

best of luck,calvin ng

Cool deal- I didn’t mean to disagree with you, just based on the box art I found at a low resolution it looked a bit off. Probably just because it was tucked under the soldier’s arm. I’m sure you’d know better than I would as you see them on a somewhat regular basis.

And also- that’s what I thought about the mounting system, thanks for the info Gino
