Build Review 2016

Almost the end of another yeat, and with my last build of the year just finished, its that time again. So here’s what i have been upto this year.

2016 started with a build carried over from 2015. It was only waiting some wheel chocks, but that was enough for me not to call it done. This is hasegawa’s 1/72nd MV-22B osprey.

Next up, one i have been itching to do for a while. Revell’s 72nd Ar 555 is waiting for its atomic load to be fitted into the bomb bay.

This was followed by Special Hobbies 72nd Whirlwind FB Mk 1, somthing a bit differant and i really enjoyed this SH kit.

Next up some armour. Dragons 1/35th 251/6 Ausf C on the wide open steppe. My first Pz Grey vehicle.

I then did a nice quick Sci-Fi build for the model clubs themed comp in July. AMT’s Droid fighters were a nice little build.

Next up was my first ship in a very long time. I do have a few ship’s, German of course. But this was a present off the Mrs as she had not seen me build a ship. It was a real lesson in sticking to kits i have an interest in as it was hard to get motivated with this. But, it was a present, so i pushed on with it. The Airfix 1/600 HMS Victorious.

I can’t believe i only built 2 German aircraft this year and the last one of those was back in the middle of the year. But Italeri’s 72nd Do 24 was really nice to do and a chance to try out adding water for the first time.

Next, i finished up one of my outstanding armour dio’s. I bult the Cyber Hobby 35th Panther with Pz IV turret a few years ago and it was great to finally get this wrapped up.

This next kit is one of a few i have had for around 2 decades and i have been itching to get at it. This is Italeri’s 35th panzerwerfer 42.

Next up was somthing i would not normally buld but i was able to really get into this one. Eduards 72nd F6F-3 was a real joy to buld.

Trumpeters 35th E-100 jagdpanzer is probably my best armour build to date. Not so much for the vehicle, which i am pleased with, but more so for the building and rubble.

Another build i struggled to get into was Academy’s 48th EF-111. This is not my scale but was picked out at last years model club secret santa, so i was obliged to build it for this years Xmas club night.

And last but not least, my favorite build of the year, mainly becauyse its my favorite version of my favoprite vehicle. This is anotehr kit thats been in the stash a very long time and i have wanted to build this vehicle ever since i saw pics of it in Squadrons book on SS armour. Tamiyas 1/35th 251/9 Ausf D.

So, thats my 2016 in models. With 13 completions, thats 2 down on 2015. But with 4 armour Dios from scratch and another outstanding one colpleted, i am very pleased with the output as well as most of the resluts. Lots of lessons learned and a good idea of what i need to do in the future.

And thanks to all who have offered words of wisdom useful suggestions or have just followed along.

You accomplished a lot this year, Bish. And all very well done!

Good show!

All very well done. The display bases only add to the already great builds.

(That third one is not actually a thumb!!!)

Wow Bish I missed watching a few. The Whirlwind, Droid fighters. 251/6, Panzer IV and Victorious. Nice looking builds [Y]. Looking forward to seeing what you have for 2017. [:D]

Steve

You’ve accomplished a lot in 2016, Bish. Well done! How was the Whirlwind kit? Any fit issues? I had my eye on that kit earlier this year and am curious about it.

Bish! I’m more than impressed! You should droll this out slowly as you build so as not to overcome us at the end of the year! All excellent work for sure. [:)]

Max

Great builds Bish. [t$t] I’ll have to come see you some time for lessons.

Jim [cptn]

really excellent work bish , true work’s of art .

I quietly sit in my corner and pout, not because your models look great but because mine are still in original packaging. Guess with my new and relatively stress free job I’d best be building and posting. Good looking equipment there Bish.

Remarkable. You are an arteest. Great year

Thanks for the comments guys. My builds owe more to the help and support from everyone here as they do to my own efforts. And its the support and feedback as well as the general goodhumour of everyone that makes it all worthwhile.

Blacksheep, i really liked it. No issues that i can recall. Its my second 72nd SH kit and i am getting to like their stuff.they do have a limited run feel, noinsertion tabs for the wings, just two flat surfaces to mate together, that sort of thing. But really nice to build. Just have to take a bit more with it.

Bish, you always amaze me with your artistic talent. What I see from you and other forum members builds is art. I look forward to your collection in 2017! Just a quick note, the 111, although a difficult build for you in terms of scale and genre, is one of my many favorites of your collection!!!

Toshi

Thanks Toshi, its much appreciated. Its great to seeyou have settledin so well andalways a pleasure to seeyour builds, i am looking forwardto seeing what you have for use in 2017.

The 111 did feel ike a bit of a chore. It wasn’t so much the subject, as the subject in this scale. I do have a soft spot for the 111 and i do have a 72nd Raven which i know i can put some real effort into.

Those are awesome Bish, I’m green with envy! [Y]

Thanks G. And you have no need to be, i have seen your builds.

Congratulations on another year of great builds. I hope 2017 will be as a productive. Happy New Year.

Bish,

Fantasic builds! Wonderful additions to your collection! And I can’t believe how many you have finished! Looking forward to your 2017 builds!

Lol, well I think I’m okay more or less in the quality department, I just need more work in the quantity end. You finished thirteen, ModelCrazy eighteen, and I finished five…

As my buddy Darth would say, “Impressive!”

How do you find the time to work on that many projects? I finished a Dauntless (posted in The Pacific contest), finished a M-48 w/diorama and started the USS Missouri. Set the Missouri aside for a while because the photo-etch work was drivng me batty. Working on a CCKW with towed 105mm now.

But I’m lucky if I get one or two hours two or three times a week. My better half just won’t put up with me coming home from work and disappearing to my workbench!

[:P]Some nice work in here…
