Brush Cleaner/Thinner

Is Testors Brush Cleaner for Enamels considered a thinner? I read somewhere today that you can thin out paint to paint a cockpit by dipping a brush in a small amount of thinner, and am wondering if it would work the same with Testors Brush Cleaner, or if I need an actual can of thinner. Any help appreciated.

It depends on how you intend to use it. I wouldn’t use it to thin for airbrushing, but it works just fine for wetting a brush to thin small amounts of paint for brush painting. I paint small parts using brush cleaner as thinner all the time. I just keep dipping my brush in to pick up a bit of thinner, then go back and mix it with the paint. It’s easy and doesn’t take much practice to get down well.

The brush cleaner merely takes a little longer to dry, It can be used in airbrushing as a last resort. Be prepared to wait about a week for complete dryness. I use Floquil thinner for airbrushing, but I clean everything and also thin for brushing with plain old turpentine. You can buy a quart of the stuff for the same price as a single one oz. bottle of thinner for model paints.

Thanks for the replies. I’m learning every day.
