Broken track

After many years of aircraft modeling, I recently stared my first armor kit, the 1/35 Academy M2A2 Bradley OIF. Everything was going along fine until I attempted to install the rubber (I believe) tracks. As I was attemting to fit the tracks onto the lower half of the kit, one of them literally snapped in two. D’oh! [sigh] They seemed too short to fit, and I was attmpting to stretchthem a bit.

Does anyone know of a spare set of tracks available somewhere? I have looked on all of my usual modeling sites and can’t seem to find anything. Also, given that they tracks are made of rubber, how does one normally go about cementing them? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks all!

Outch,
Nasty when that happens!
My suggestion would be to get the needle and thread out and mend the tracks together.
If the tracks are to short for no other reason then that they are badly produced you might want to hide the joint where it is not noticable.
Hang something over the joint.

That’s sort of what I was thinking. The skirts hang down low enought that it wouldn’t be visible if the seperated portion were up underneath.

this is not the first time this topic has come up {short tracks} my Honey and Stuart also had short tracks, the good news for me is there are aftermarket tracks available.

I have not played with Bradely’s so I don’t know if they have aftermarket tracks. I am looking forward to hear from the experts here to find out if the Academy kits are having issuese with tracks…

You can also staple them back together and hide it under the skirt.

If you want replacement tracks, call Tamiya Customer Service and they will send you a replacement set. Fruil makes a set of metal tracks for it. AFV Club also does a much more affordable set in plastic as well.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I ended up using some epoxy to hold it together underneath the skirt. All I can say is, all hail epoxy! [bow]
