Finally I have some progress with my Trumpeter British Challenger 2! Well, to those who are wondering if I still model despite of the long hours I put in the forums the answer is “YES”.[:D][:D][:D]
“I still do.” although the progress on my works are really as slow as snail-pace. LOL.
Well, down to business. This is my first Trumpeter kit and it is going smoothly so far. No major fit problems, just minor ones. Anyway nothing that some good sanding cannot correct. Just need to do a lot of clean up though but it is bearable up to this time. The first major problem during the assembly is the sort of gun matlet cover is too short (upper portion) such that when the gun is in a level position, there is a big gap that would allow you to see inside the turret. This gap of course is reduced if you elevate the gun. Well, I just put a sheet of plastic inside to cover the gap and probably it is ok.
Here are some pics. Nothing much to see but just to show that I did do it anyway. LOL.
Looking good Dwight. I have thought about getting that kit so I’ll just wait and see what your final thughts are on it. Look forward to seeing more pics.
Chris, after building a Tamiya Leopard 2 A5, you may find this kit abit not up to par. I have not built a Tamiya modern AFV but based on the other Tamiya kits I have worked on, it is not as finely done(I mean the molding, fit, etc. I am not sure about the accuracy thing.) But nevertheless, the tank looks cool and quite big, too.
Coming along nicely Dwight. Yeah, I hate those PZ IV wheels or in my case PZ III wheels. Doesn’t Dragon make a Challenger? If so, does anyone know if its any good? Dwight, your an artist also? [8D]
Tigerman:
1.) I am not sure if Dragon issued a British Challenger 2. If they did I have not seen any around here. All I saw was a Tamiya British Chalenger 1. This looks better in the box art so I got it. Maybe it will be OK when finished.
2.) Yes, unfortunately I am an artist also, I think. LOL. Been into painting since I was small. I do oil on canvas, watercolor, charcoal and lots of other stuff. Crazy stuff, I guess. LOL.
Gday Dwight,
I looked up the Challenger link you gave me.It was a pretty good one, matter of fact its also where I’d found the specs for the Abrams.
Have fun with the road wheels.Maybe thats why I’m building softskinned vehicles all of a sudden; not so many roadwheels !
Jeff
Looking good so far, Dwight! All I see is Xs here, but I saw your pix over at the gallery.
As of right now, Trumpeter is the only game in town for Challenger IIs, with three different models offered. In addition to the version out now, this month we’ll get the Iraq version and another Kosovo version with the armor upgrade and dozer blade.
Tamiya has two nice Challengers, but no CII, and Dragon has none of the above.
Yeah I only see X’s here Dwight. I’m one of those who wonder too, how do you get to finish your model when you seem to spend much time in this forum?[:D][;)]
