British bang seat question

Hello all:

I’ve got the new Xtrakit/MPM 1/72 Gloster Meteor Mk.8 and I need to dress up its ejection seat a bit.

In my research, I’ve found both the Martin Baker MB.1 and MB.2 seats were used in the Meteor, but nothing really definitive about which seat went with which variant.

The Meteor I’ll be building will be a RAF Mk.8 from the late 50s with the later style full blown canopy.

Does anyone know for certain which bang seat was right for a Meteor of that time frame? I’ve found pictures of both types, but I just don’t know which to dress my kit’s seat up as.

Thanks in advance.

It’s been awhile since I built a meteor, but if a remember correctly they had problems with the martin baker Mk1 seat and only used it for a brief period of time. All the baker MK1 seat were replaced with the Mk2. So I would think the upgraded seat would be the one you would see.

Somewhere I have a website on this, If I can find it i’ll get it to you.

don’t know if you have seen this yet upnorth, but there’s some info and pics.

Upnorth,
Have a look at:

There’s a whole bunch of great info on that site.
Hope it helps.
Cheers, mate…

It was a type 2E seat; “any colour, you like, so long as it’s black” as Henry Ford said. Early versions would have had the “D” type handles, which were red, not black & yellow. No centre-pull handle, in the seat; black cushion; tan parachute pack, in the backrest; blue and/or white straps.

Thanks a bunch guys!
