This is my second attempt at model making after bringing a Revell Peterbilt Black Widow truck back from the dead. This time I wanted something a little easier than the truck to gain more practice so I chose Concorde. The model was easy enough to build but I had fun and games with the endless amount of transfers / stickers / labels (not sure what they’re called in America). The lack of a stand made me come up with a weird and wonderful way of displaying the plane as I have no idea what you guys would make for a stand but I am pleased with the end result.

It’s far from perfect and if you look closely you might find one or two damaged transfers but it’s only my second model and I learn something new each time I make a mistake so I can only get better (hopefully).

All comments, suggestions and tips are welcome because if you don’t tell me, I might never know.

I never took any photos when building this model as it was just a case of glueing the wings and nose on and spraying it white. I then fitted the engines and landing gear before nervously applying the transfers.

When I first opened the box Concorde came in I was disappointed to not find a stand. So I had a rummage around and came up with the base of an old ‘helping hands’ tool and an aerial from a CD player.

I worked out what angle I wanted the plane to be at then cut out the centre from a chrome parts frame and glued it to the top of the aerial. On the underside of the plane I fitted location pins which fit inside the square chrome piece. I can now position the plane any way I like by moving or extending the aerial.

Now that Concorde is finished I have started building a Revell Dumper Trailer to go with the Peterbilt Black Widow truck that I built.

I’ve used either transfers or decals.

BTW…don’t let Manny try to tell you it needs more rust…[whstl]

Very nice model, E. But what jumps out is that the visor is up, as it would be when parked or at high speed, yet she’s in subsonic flight, gear down. I like your inflight display, and I’d suggest you snap off the landing gear, close the doors and she’ll look very slick indeed.

I agree with bondo. I would think nose up, wheels up on the bird.

I have to tell you that’s a nice, clean, and sharp build up. The display stand is smart and the lines on the Concord are great. Well done Liz.

We use the term ‘transfers’ here in America, but another common term is ‘decals.’ Looks like yours came out well, despite the fun and games you had with them. That’s definitely one aspect where we’ve all shared in the fun and games.

Sprue-ce Goose: Decals! That’s a good word for them. I never thought of that one. So, decals it is then.

bondoman: err … oops! Landing gear down, visor up. I guess you wouldn’t believe me if I said that was a deliberate mistake? [whstl]

Very sharp looking model![Y]

Stands can be made pretty easily. I use premade unfinished (I stain them) plaques from a craft store and brass rod/tube or 1/4 inch wood dowel. Just drill a hole, the same size as the rod or dowel, about half way into the wood, and a hole (at whatever angle you choose) into the model. If you use a small gauge rod, you can bend it just before it enters the model. This will allow you to change the attitude of the plane by spinning it around.

In this shot, you can see (just to the right of the C-130s) an F-15 that is mounted the same way, but hung on the wall.
