Brit WWII Uniform

Robert, or anyone;

I’m in the process of, finally, painting my DML Firefly dudes. I know the outer uniform color is khaki. What color should I paint the shirt of the commander figure and his ascot. Also, what color was the hooded thing he has on? Please any help would be apprecieated!

Sorry, I don’t have any idea what these uniform parts were really called.

Without seeing the fiqure I can only give some basic info, the shirt would also be Khaki usually a little lighter than the rest of the uniform, not quite sure what you mean by ascot so I won’t make a comment, if the thing on his head is a beret (it would most likely be of a Navy color, if it was a leather protective hood it would a dark brown.

Hope this helps a bit.

The ascot is probably a silk scarf. The British wore them to cut down on friction on the back of their necks. I don’t think they were issue, so in theory could be any color, but I would bet on it being khaki or brown or something similarly subdued. They might well be in regimental colors. The beret would depend on the regiment or corps affiliation. One of the units that the kit has markings for is the 13th/18 Hussars. Being cavalry, they probably wouldn’t wear the black Royal Armored Corps beret. I’m at work right now, so I don’t know what unit the other markings are for. I’ll check when I get home this afternoon. I may have a book or two that might have some info. If nobody else answers, I’ll post whatever I find.
You’re already at that stage? I have done most of the hull and turret, just the small fittings and the running gear to do there, and the painting. The links are taking a lot of time. Right now they are the bottle neck. Thank God my next two builds will be Tamiyas with rubber band tracks!

The tracks are a pain, for sure! I keep going backwards on them. I get a few glued up then have to change them as they are crooked or something else stupid. There just aren’t any good alignment or strength points to them.

Saturday, I was painting a layer of lightened bronze green on it, turned wrong, and managed to break off one of the headlights and the PE guard for it. Fun stuff. I’d gotten the guard glued on so well, it actually broke the metal arms in two, not just broken the attachment point from the hull! Like I said, my progress seems to be in a regressive mode!! lol

My tracks seem to be going ok. I’m doing them in groups of 5, and within each group they look straight. I have no idea what they’ll look like when I glue the groups together.
I’ve had a look at the instructions. The figures are shown wearing cold weather clothing, so that probably rules out a silk scarf around the crewman’s neck. My guess is a heavier scarf, again in khaki or something like it. It might also be a sweater. I don’t think it matters as long as the color looks like it fits in. The other unit the kit has markings for is the 4th CLY. I can’t say for sure what color the beret would have been. My guess is black, because that what most, if not all RAC units wore. Sorry I can’t be more help. I’m sure somebody in this forum will know.

Thanks, Bill. I looked at my figures tonight and I guess right, I guess, on the sweater on the commander. I painted it just a bit lighter than his outter wear. I appreciate your help.
