bricks

Whats a good way to weather bricks? I used cardinal red acrylic for the base color but I want to make them look like theyve been around a while. I also know a black or brown washworks too

Well… it really depends on the type of look you love to see on your bricks. What you said is fine. Remember… personally, if you feel it’s right. Go for it.

Also, don’t forget to dust them with a dust or dirt color, particularly if they are sitting in a pile of debris. Even on a wall, they can get dusty and dirtry. The ones near the bottom of the wall usually get more dirty than ones near the top, however.

Lots of factors for weathering bricks, and painting them too…I try to paint different colours here and there for brickwork, just to break up the manotany of having one single colour. In rubble, once everything is glued down, and dry, I hit with a dark wash, usually burnt umber and black mix. some drybrushing, then depending on my scene, I add alot of brick dust, be it from MIG Pigments to Stardust Brick Dust…even mixing the two gets some neat effects.
Here’s an example of what I mean…taken from my Linking Up dio…
