G’day Folk’s,
This is the Tamiya re-issued Buffalo in 48 scale, it is basicly OOB and as per the Box Art, the interior is basic and the decals suplied for the indtruments are what has been fitted to this model, silver foil for the landing light backing, the mesh that I applied to the rear of the cowling and the DF loop are the only extra’s I’ve added to my model.
This kit shows the subject as a 339e but is not true to the modification of the cowling to convert the F2A2 into a 339e. As I have gone for option A from the kit my model will be that depicted on the box. This kit has been re engineered to acomadate the small electric moter that Tamiya have been putting in some of their model subjects.

You’re Buffalo is coming together nicely.
I’ve never built a Buffalo, but I think I’ll try one myself, they’re odd looking little things aren’t they.
Off to a great start Rob. Someday I’d like to do the version flown by the Finns, can’t recall the model designation off hand.
Regards, Rick

Fine work, as usual, Rob. That was my first museum build, a Dutch East Indies version for the CAF’s model collection many years ago. Mine too, was OOB, not in the least constructed as well as yours, either, from the early photos. (They didn’t have the highest standards in that museum back then, and I was just returning to the hobby.) Out of the hundreds of planes representing the various WW II combatants, the CAF museum didn’t have a single DEI planes in the model collection at the time.
I still love that kit, and want to do it with the Eduard PE set. However, it was ahead of its time in many ways, which is why it’s still so good today straight OOB, even though it is over twenty years old, maybe close to 25. I recently obtained a SAM Publication called “Pearl Harbor and Beyond,” a reference book I highly recommend, which covers the jcolors and markings of the combatants on both sides of the Pacific war from Pearl Harbor right up to Midway. There are well over a hundred color profiles in this softbound, reasonably priced book, including I don’t know how many Brewster Buffaloes in DEI, US, British and captured Japanese markings.

Hi,
Nicely done so far Rob, I’d like to see this one when finished.

Great job. One of my favourite ugly ducklings! Will be looking forward to seeing more of it soon!
