Brewster Buffalo

Anyone here built the tamiya buffalo pacific theatre? I just got it and it looks good. I was wondering if anyone could post a pic if they have made one of these. I love the old flying coffin. Any other fans of this old relic?

I haven’t built the new Pacific Theater release, but I’ve built a couple of the initial releases. It’s a pretty straight forward build & looks good built up. Eduard has a very nice PE detail set for the kit & I plan on using it when I build another. If you like Buffalo’s, you should take a look at the new 1/48 co-operative releases from Special Hobby & Classic Air Frames. Don’t know how they build, but they include much more detail OOTB than the older Tamiya kit.

Yup, definatly like that aircraft. Afraid I can’t give you any help with the Tamiya Buffalo, as I’ve never built it. I do have the new Classic Airframes model 239 “Finnish Air Force” on preorder, hoping to get it sometime this week. Any airforce that can get a close to 30:1 kill ratio with an obsolete aircraft is definatly high up on my lsit of favorates! Good luck building your Buffalo, and I look forward to seeign pictures when you get it done!

I’m just starting to build the older Tamiya kit. So far it is fairly straight forward. Unfortunately, I must put it on the back burner as we will be moving shortly and it will be awhile before I get back to it. You will probably finish yours before I finish mine! Good luck!

The Tamiya kit will build up into a nice model. Some might put a lot of extra detail into the wheel well but that’s up to the builder. The only thing to watch out for is that the rear part of the caonpy is a shade narrower than the fuselage it sits on. Easy to fix - sand a little from the mating surfaces of the top decking until you reduce the width of the fuselage enough to match the clear part.

By the way, the codes for ‘NF-O’ should be Sky, not grey.

Thanks for the replies guys and I will post pics when finished.

Cheers
Paul

HastyP,

I’ve built both Tamiya 48 Buffalo kits, from the re-issued F2b2 and the ‘Pacific Theatre’ boxing.
My pix show the modified F2b2 with resin conversion to create a Buffalo 339 in RAAF markings [missing the vac-form canopy], of 25 Sqn RAAF as copared to the kit OOB as a 448 RNZAF bird.
The only difference Tamiya have done to the ‘Pacific’ boxing is having the kit retooled for the future inclusion of the spinning propeler electric motor, the kit goes together with little or no vices and very little filler is required.

The kit also comes with the masking patern for the canopy and the under floor window, in some cases this window was painted over, the upper cam is Olive Drab / US Green 42 on both of these birds.
I hope this helps a little.

The ‘Pacific Theatre’ boxing as built OOB.

Modified F2b@ re-issued kit with Eduard PE and resin conversion.

Both these birds have been airbrushed free hand using the same cam colours but with variation in the upper cam patern, the split Black / Sky scheme as per box art, for the 448 Sqn RNZAF. Both of these birds are unfinished.
