BRDM BoReDoM

Here is a (1/35 DML) model BRDM-3

This BRDM is suffering from BoReDoM, …you know how tiring it is keeping chemical weapons hidden from the Allies.

Well good news awaits this Iraqi army unit… his guard shift is about to end…

The base is covered with plaster and celluclay. The gates are Testors/Italeri plastic gates painted with acrylics. The Incoming AGM is from my 1/32 Stealth F117.

The BRDM was given the salt technique, and there was a forum post for it as well.

Very nice! Nice picture. That “bomb” is a GBU-10 j/b with the 2000lb BLU-109 penetrator as a war head. Very nicely done, and I love the subject matter! AMMO HUH! [}:)]

Great looking model. The strange thing is, isn’t the bomb in real life more expensive than the BRDM? It makes me want to get out one of my BRDM’s and build it.

Maybe motionblur the bomb slightly… Other than that, good to see that the salt technique works well. I’m going to be trying it myself soon.

Good job muzzleflash! I love the bomb about to impact!! [:D]

Woah !!! Very nice model and funny stage !

Wow Great Reviews.
I am happy to get positive comments from this forum

I still need to paint the GBU, I am thinking red/white/blue with some lettering.

Anyone got a good “bomb slogan” (nose art) for this GBU about to hit its target?

Thanks,
Muzzleflash

[}:)] serves 'em right ! (gleeful giggle)

Very nicely done and humorous, the salt technique really worked out well for you. As far as the nose slogan goes you could go with something simple like a logo (brown with yellow letters “U.P.S”, or “S.P.A.M…there everywhere” , or even “Starbucks” because they are everywhere…anyway good luck and have fun…

I’ve seen a lot of different “slogans” like: This One’s For Jessica (referring to Jessica Lynch), "AMMO, We Live So You May Die, or Providing You the Opportunity to Die For Your Country, Built From the Iron of The World Trade Center, Headache Cure Take One and Don’t Bother Calling, Feel These Eagle’s Talons, From US to You, We the People…

There are a lot more, just can’t think of any more right now. Just use your imagination. That’s all we do.

Great work Muzzleflash ! The BRDM looks great. How did you like working with the “salt technique” ? The use of the backdrop is very well done and just really sets the tone for the entire pic.

On the critique side of things, the groundwork could use with a little bit of tonal change in it unless it’s just the pic playing tricks as they can do. Maybe a wash and a little drybrushing will give a little more depth to the groundwork.

All in all a very nice little scene, something to be proud of as you place it on your shelf.

Keep up the great work Muzzleflash and thank you for sharing with us.

Shermanfreak is always so polite, thanks

I detailed the terrain per your suggestion and it does look much better.

The kit was a lot of fun to build. The chain driven off road wheels are movable to the retractable position. The front tires are steerable. All four tires rotate. The AT missile rack rotates and pivots. The tires are rubber/vinyl. After working on a few tamiya kits and 2 DML kits, I want to do more DML and less tamiya

As far as the salt technique there was a post on it here http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3497

Great improvement with a small amount of extra work. It really looks great overall now Muzzleflash. You’re improving with every kit you build. Very impressive.

Now when are you going to build a Sherman ?

Thanks again for sharing, it’s really a treat to see something a little different.

I am close to “starting” my sherman kits. My german armor group is wrapping up and my US group is going to start soon. The BRDM was just begging to be built so it got bumped up in line  If only I can pick a bomb slogan…Might just add another GBU and title one “shock” and the other “aww”.
The suggestion of Starbucks is hilarious, might use that somewhere else

Shermanfreak I have the Italeri sherman-marines kit with the “wood” panels on the side and the tall snorkle scoops. I also have a verlinden US marines set that i plan to use with this kit.

The other sherman kit i have is the Dragon Vc Firefly, and it scares the daylights out of me weighing in at 499 parts out of the box GOOD GRIEF!!

So what can you tell me about the italeri kit that I should be warned about because I will probably start that one WELL before the DML kit.

(coming soon: german armor pics - my first tiger )

The Italeri kit has a few problems that you should know about. First off they say you can build an M4A2 version with it. You can, but certainly not with the parts that are in the box. It takes some extensive changes to make it into an M4A2.
So now you can go with the next option, the M4A3 which is ok because now you can build it with the hull that is included in the box. As with any Italeri kit there are a few fit problems you’ll encounter along the way but nothing you can’t overcome. Watch the tracks … they are as always a little stiff and will break the idler connection if special care is not taken.

As far as the Dragon M4A4 kit goes … gotta luv dem tracks … LOL.
Close to 500 parts and most of them tracks. They do make the head swim when you first see them, but do they ever look great when they are done. Patience my friend… lots and lots of patience. The kit itself is a real gem to build, did you get the re-tooled version or the old version ?

Back to your BRDM for a second though. I took a couple of minutes last night and went back and looked at some of your previous dios that you had posted. This is by far your best effort to date. You have really taken to some of the new techniques that you have learned through here and put them to good use. Just keep up the great work my friend.
I can’t wait to see the next one.

Good job muzzleflash
Its almost like looking at a shadow box in a photo.
Keep up the good work.

Did the Iraqi’s have BMP’s? I have the DML BMP and some extra arabic decals left over from this BRDM…

Should I make an Iraqi BMP??

Very nice muzzleflash88. I really like the part about the hiding chemical weapons from the Allies
