Brazilian P-36

Well, here’s at last my finished brazilian P-36A. The kit it’s a Academy P-36, as probably everybody knows this is the only injection plastic P-36 in 1/48. It may looks a simple plane but believe me, this is kinda a tricky plane to build, mainly with the engine mounting and landig gear covers and some other few parts which I scratch them cause there were quite thick for my taste. Despite that you can build a very nice OOB aircraft from this kit. The decals came from my spare decals box.

This model represents one of the 10 P-36A sent to Brazil in 1942 by 6º US Air Force, as part of Lend Lease program, at begining they were sent to Air base at Fortaleza, late in 1942 and early 1943 they were tansfered to 6º Regimento de Aviaçao, were they received new red and later yellow colors in the cowlings, they served patroling the Brazilian Northeast coasts, until April 1943 they were sent to Natal as part of the Escuadrão Misto de Instrução (training squadron), during training missions 5 p-36 were lost, the 5 remaining P-36 were transfered to the Escola de Especialistas de Aeronáutica (Specialist Aeronautic School) were they remained until 1946, later they were sold as scrap parts… such a sad end for a beautiful plane… :frowning:

Comments and critics are welcome.

Alfredo.

Yeah, I’m well aware of this kit. That landing strut assembly is for the dogs! The kit decals are horrible as well. However, you did a great job. That’s an interesting scheme too. Don’t see many of those…none now that I think about it! Very well done…

Andy

Very nice build of a different scheme.

Love it love it love it!

To echo the others, well done and a great camo scheme! Nice to see different markings as well. [tup]

Beautiful! Love the subject and the weathering job. I’ve got one of those I hope to do as a French example someday.

Looks good. Nice job on an intersting subject not modeled enough.

Good job Alfredo…I like the weathering. Now, of course, I’ll have to get one. [4:-)]

Nice build Alfredo. Well done!!

Regards, Rick

I love the rare markings, Alfredo. It’s nice to see these “new” paint schemes now and then.It really gives a perspective as to how many countries used the old warbirds

wow! a latin american cousin (I´m from Argentina)

I allways like the brazilian schemes, there is a Mirage III in black, yellow, green and blue… cool!!

anyway exellent work on the kit, I like the paint job and the weathering

congratulations my friend, beatiful build

best regards

Jeremias

Jere!…get off the PC and let that hand heal![(-D] But, yes another modeler from your general area can be compelling!

Cool!.. Let me know when you start yours Tommy. Now we gonna have to build 8 more to have the complete squadron… :stuck_out_tongue: Glad you liked and thanks for the comment.

Yeah Charles if I build one P-36 (in this case) of each country that use it, it would take me forever to finish… however… it’s a interesting idea… mmmm

Jeremias, despite my florid language while building this plane… I got another 2 more kits like this one… well I have not much to choice to build more P-36… Im planing to build one of them in Portuguese and the other in Argentinian markings… however… Since Argentina used the H-750, I’ll need to made some modifications for it, first to all, to mod the leanding gear, which I still planing where to start. Here’s some schemes of them.

So if someone knows if there’s available this modifications for the P-36, in the market… please please please… let me know it… I’ll appreciate it. I don’t feel like scratching the whole landing gear… but if I don’t have any choice… mmmmm… I’ll have to do it.

Thanks to all for the comments, I really apreciate it.

Al! Thanks for the profiles! Very inspiring! el-jere got me looking into South American paint schemes some time ag. Got a lot on the bench right now…but not forgetting!

Hehehe that´s true, I´m trying to get more modelers converted to the dark side of the force hehe

Alfredo: here is a link to a web with pictures, indo and profiles about the argentinian hawks, hope this help

Hobbycraft made a kit of the argie curtiss 75 but I think is very hard to find

Yeas, and he got me interested in building a Bae Hawk too. [swg]

Thank you for the link you sent Jeremias! wow, has been quite useful!

I didn’t realized you post it since this thread passed by quite fast to the next page in the forum, so I didn’t see it. BTW I have a friend from Arg that moved over here some years ago, he’s from Rio de la Plata (I think) and he’s who asked me to build some Arg airplane.

Thank you all guys again for the comments.

Nice work, always liked the P-36 and some unique markings too!

you wellcome, I´m happy to help, maybe your friend is from LA PLATA, rio de la plata is just a river (as far as I know) rio mean river

best regards

Jeremias

Yes! Super realistic, save for one thing… In my opinion, if you go through all the trouble of reproducing a minature with meticulous detail with the landing gear in the ‘down’ position (of a parked airplane), then the tires should show signs of the weight they support in the form of slighty flattened tires…
