BR 52 painting

Ok…I tried the search in here…I even did a google search. The only paint scheme I saw was the Black w/ red chassis. The sheet that comes with the model (Trumpeter… [;)] ), shows a grey w/ fieldstone scheme. I like it, but I can’t find any historical references to it. If I could find an historical pic of this scheme, my happy hands would be a paintin’ [:)].

Now…I’ve never researched previous builds, but I’d like at least have one pic to show that I’m at least in the ballpark. The Black over red seems to be the post-war scheme (read: civilian), and as I’m going to have this bad boy in front of Leopold and Karl, I’d like it to be a scheme during the war.

Through searching, I found a bunch of pics from a dio that a gent in England did. (i believe his name was Paul Shaw) Whilst it was an awesome dio, and the paint scheme on his 52 is like the grey/fieldstone on the Trumpeter sheet, its the only other pic I’ve seen…other than the black/red.

Anyone have a good reference??? I’ve seen some libraries of folks on here…I have no problem buying a book. I would just love a reference. Any help would be most appreciated. [:)]

btw…i found the PE sets too late. good thing though…more money to spend on flat-cars and the like. Sherman’s dio might be wide, but mine’s gonna be loooooooooong. [:D]

Hey, I’m in the same boat as you. I wasn’t really able to find something concrete to show this camo scheme. However, at the end I just said ‘fudge’-it, and went with the gray camo anyways. There is an article in Tamiya Model Magazine issue 124, where Phil Stutcinskas wrote a brief article on his buildup of the CMK model, and painted in the very same scheme. Might want to check it out.

I think I saw a couple pics of it, but his looked different. Could have been the pics though. I can’t read his article…gotta pay for that. [;)] I’m still on the hunt for War time Br52s.

In the mean time, the chassis’ get painted black. Since I still haven’t dabbled in the weathering scene, it’ll look like it just came out of the paint shop. [:D]

(i actually got a little 1/48 Kubelwagen and a 1/35 M41 to try out the weathering stuff [:)] )

i have been trying to find camo patterns on this. the only pic i have is a garish tiger stripe of one in a polish museum. the train sites didn’t have anything, the 3D sites didn’t have anything. i am doing mine black with red undercarraige.

yeah wayne…i saw that one.

i’ve been scouring the web. i have found a couple pics and sites, but they’re all in German. Makes me wish I would have taken German in high school. hmmmmm…there was a cute girl in German class…… ok…I’m back again. [;)]

I did find a dio of a blown up Br52. Then I found an actual pic of the dio. If I run across them again I’ll post the links. There was one site that had a lot of info on Br52s, but they were all repainted for post-war… i.e. the black over red.

As far as I’ve been able to tell, other than the black over red, the only other color was grey over “a dark color”. [:)] I did run across a very weird camo pattern, but the pic was B&W. I’m desperately trying to find it again. [:(]

I am continuing to go in the direction of the grey camo pattern in the Trumpeter kit. I know I can’t find a real pic, but I think its cool. Besides, it must have SOME reality since Peter Shaw did his 1/6 Br52 that way. [:D]

Cheers…

(not sure if Mr. Shaw stops by here, but just in case, I wanted to correct my earlier mistake. Apologies Sir…you’re one extraordinary craftsman [tup] )
