I’m new to this forum and wanted to ask a question that has probably been answered before (even though I couldn’t find it!).
Is there a highly recommended book (or books) on the market that take a new comer to modelling through the entire process starting from washing the pieces and cutting them from their frames to airbrushing and other finer skills?
Thanks - any advise would be very much appreciated!
Anthony,
Welcome aboard! The folks who provide this forum publish a number of great books at very reasonable cost to help beginners and experienced modelers. Go to the home page and click on “Our products” on the left side under “community”. A subscription to the Finescale magazine wouldn’t hurt either. Christmas is coming so start making subtle hints.
I hope I’m not violating any of the protocols by recommending the boss’ stuff! OK, Jeff, bend my dog tags and make me watch another “reality show” with the little lady of the house.
Thanks Snakedriver,
In fact I have heard that The Basics of Scale Modeling (published by fine scale modeler) is quite good…I’ve already picked up a few copies of the magazine which is great but I wanted one condensed source of information!
I most highly recommend Osprey’s series of modeling books, from basic aircraft modeling to master class.
Plus, you can get their books on modeling specific types, which, INHO, are not that helpful in the earlier volumes, reprinted and translated from an early '90s series from a Spanish publisher, but the newer ones, such as the one on the F-18, and the last two, Modelling the Mosquito and Modelling the F4U Corsair – the latter just released Oct. 10 – are fantastic books, so Osprey is learning how to do this type of book right. The Phantom book is pretty helpful as well.
But for general help in modeling, either armor or aircraft, go to the respective beginner or mid-level Osprey books for help. And, Osprey books are reasonably priced as well.
