Book / reference forum ? ( We would like a admin to have a look at this )

We are a couple of guys in the armor forum, that are wondering if anyone would be interrested in a book / refference forum.
We have found ourselves exchanging refference and book titeles in long topics, and thought it would be a good idea to have a forum for this sort of discusions.
We have to admit that books / refference is a big part of this hobby, so why not a dedicated forum for this.
Give us your input. ( hope you can understand my english ) [:)]

This could be very helpful. For instance, I just came across data compiled by the British in Tunisia by firing 90 some odd rounds at a captured Tiger. Angles, velocities and so much info including results and possible casualties. This could be invaluable to someone currently ‘battle damaging’ a Tiger, but if I post it in the Armor forum, it will move on rather quickly, being 5 or 6 pages back by week’s end. A purely historical reference forum could really tap the wealth of info our members have.

monrad,

There is nothing wrong with your English[:)]

Now if you will take the input of a non-armour modeler I think your suggestion has great merit[bow][bow][bow]

I have noticed that in every forum I click into there are references to books and web sites that contain great information[^]

Someone at FSM will have to monitor it and decide how to organize it so it doesn’t become unmanageable[%-)]

Ypu have one terrific idea[8D] Let’s see if we can get enough support to make it happen[:D][:D][:D]

Richard

Richard, thank you for your input.
This is not meant as an armor only issue, its for all, and we would like input from everybody.
Keep it coming guys.

Sounds like an awesome idea. especially if you consider the fact that not everybody has access to a public library or a club witht the neccesary info.

I’m for it. Sounds like it would be a big help for finding needed referances.

So where do we go from here?

I guess we have to wait for someone like Lawrence Hansen or another admin to read this. But still…keep it coming guys more input. [:)]

Monrad, I totally agree with you, there needs to be a reference thread that allows you to post reference pics, sites, and reviews of books. But I heard that they would have to reset the whole forum in order to post new categories. That of course is a rumor I heard, Lawrence would be able to clear that up better for ya.

If it is a problem or a reset would be necessary, maybe we can just informally use the test forum, it seems that there isn’t much action there, or maybe they could rename it for testing and research.
If we ran a thread on say ‘Tiger facts or questions’ it would probably stick around there for a while on page 1.

We could do that ausf, but I would like to hear from Lawrence or any of the other admins first. Can we mail them? I don’t know. But it seems we have some support, but even more would be great. So with the risk of repeating my self…keep it coming guys.

i am all for it. the local library has a large collection of love story books, western fiction, science fiction novels, and assorted telephone books but not much in the way of reference materials. would love to see a reference swap thread or topic.

joe

Joe,
Can’t your local branch get books from the others in the area?
Our library is accessible online and almost all items can be ordered and picked up locally, including DVDs and such. The only limitation I’ve found so far are foreign films like Stalingrad, Das Boot or Europa Europa. They have some bizarre restriction on them.
Saves me so much money in books and movie rentals.

This is what im talking about http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18797 I see threads like this in many forums. It would be nice to have a forum dedicated to this.
Come on guys more input. We need to get the admins attention.

they can ausf. i should say they do the best they can it is a rural library run by volenteers. however they do charge for the interlibrary loans (higher than the others i have used) and they are typically slow to act upon these requests. i did give up on finding anything useful for my hobby through this source several years ago because of the way the requests were handled. still waiting for one that i requested on fiberoptics. they do a fantastic job with getting children involved in reading, that is their specialty.

joe

And that is the most important of specialties.
The librarians at my local branch are so familiar with my boys (2 and 4) that they automatically reserve books and DVDs they know they are interested in. (sharks, space, trains, dinosaurs, etc.)
And now Tanks are added to the list
My two year old started yelling ‘Sherman, Sherman’ as we drove past West Point yesterday (they have one on display) and my four year old explains to him that it was built when Grandma was little and that a Tiger is bigger. That’s my boy![^]

Happy to hear about your boys…sounds like you have raised them properly.
Now return to the book / reference discussion please, [:D][:D][swg]
Don’t take it personal…im just realy excited about this, and would realy like to see it happen. [:)]

great idea

I’m for it too!

I notice the Western Euroreans are really into this. Here’s my offer:
you supply…

  1. Airfare from NYC
  2. Real Guiness
  3. Herring (I’m Swedish)

…and I will bring all the books we can get here that are to way to expensive over there.

Deal?
