I almost finished my 1968 GTO when IT happened. I used Bare Metal Foil for all the windshields, wheel-wells, etc, when in my wisdom of 50 years I thought I should apply an acrylic coat. I used a spray electricians use for circuit boards and now my beautiful car is orange peeled. Help! what to Do?[BH]
If it’s really orange peel (post a pic, if you can—would really help to diagnose the problem and suggest a cure) you may be able to sand it out and repaint. However, from your description, I suspect that the top coat caused the paint to wrinkle. In that case, the only cure is to strip the paint and redo the paint job.
What kind of spary did you use???
For circuit boards, the topcoat spray is for soldermasking and dielectric coating, and has some pretty aggresive solvents that may react with acrylics, or worse, the polystyrene of your car body.
Like was said above, you may need to strip with oven cleaner, prime, and repaint, and use an acrylic topcoat. A safe rattle can spray type is the kind that flourists and artists use to topcoat flower arrangements and paintings. It comes in both satin and gloss and can be found in the craft and art supplies departments of most large retailers.
