Shrikes, those first two images were pretty large, especially for dial up. I’ll resize 'em and maybe that’ll help you a bit.
Oh, and no, there wasn’t a B-17. Just the B-29 and B-24. (LB-30)
I was planning on posting more than this tonight but I’m really bushed, so here’s a just a few more of ‘FIFI’…
Been a long, long time since I’d seen either of these ‘ole gals and it’s also been awhile since I got out to see any warbirds at all, so I was lovin’ it…
I’ll post a few more general images of ‘FIFI’ tomorrow. I took a decent number of shots, almost 300, but most of what I got was walkaround type stuff. I’d post 'em all, but I really don’t feel like processing all those images, so I’ll weed through 'em… [:p]
CRAP…I wish I lived in the states…I don’t get to see these things for real…the best I saw was some wreckage from a B-26 that crashed in Northern Labrador just after the end of WW2. All crew survived the crash but died before rescue (about a month before the Captain perished). I have seen lots of RAF and German Tornados as well as C130’s and Globemasters but no warbirds. B—U—TI—FULL…keep the pics coming Blackwolf when you get a chance.
Hey BW… by any chance do you know if those ladys are coming to Manesfield Ohio next? I thought I’d read that in the earlier post, if so do you by any chance know the dates they’ll be here? Thanks for those great pictures by the way.
Alrighty, here’s a few shots of ‘Lil’. Was lucky enough to get an unobstructed view of her while they were running up #4 on ‘FIFI’. Although, wouldn’t you know it, the sun was hiding at that particular time… grrrrrrrrr…
I usually like to take lotsa detail shots, but especially so on 'ole ‘Lil’ because, as some of you may have noticed (or not) she doesn’t have regular B-24 engine cowls, nor engines. These engines and cowls came from a couple’a PBY’s…
Yeah, that’s me… when I get around warbirds I just get this goofy smile on my face and it don’t go away for days. Especially when I run into a vet and something cool happens. More on that later…
Will try to post more images tonight, but Mike (aka Butz here on the forums) will be here for another Monday build’n’bull, so I don’t hold much hope of posting anything much tonight. We’ll see…
Actually, ‘Diamond Lil’ started life as a B-24A. I believe that she was the 25th B-24A built and was to have gone to the RAF with the designation of LB-30B, (Liberator I) but suffered a landing accident on a test flight prior to delivery.
She was then sent back to the factory for repairs and eventually converted to a transport, acting as the prototype for the C-87. She served stateside as an executive transport for the rest of the war, with her most notable passenger being Madame Chiang Kai-shek.
After the war she was sold and changed hands a couple of times serving, again, as an executive transport until being purchased by the CAF in 1969…
Oh, I gots lotsa plans, to be sure, to be sure…just not much action!
I’ve got the ol’ Monogram D in storage back in the States, so it’s definitely a possibility…
And just to prove I was there too, here are some shots that I took. I tried not to duplicate anything Steve has up.
This last one is General Dynamics In-Flight Simulator. They can configure it to fly like anything through computers to teach pilots how to handle different aircraft. It was used a lot to train astronauts on how to handle the shuttle for landing.
