Hi there, Im working on the tamiya kit of this car, and its pretty nice, but im not really happy with the hood. I want to display it open, so Ive thinned the edges, but I havent been able to find any pics of the underside of the hood. anyone got any idea if it would be a fiberglass hood on the racecar, or stock?and what would it look like? and, does it open from the front or back? If anyone can help me out with this that would be great!
Matt,
I don’t know what the hood on these cars was made of. Since Group A cars were essentially “stock” I suspect they may have used the original street-car hood instead of a fiberglass (non-production) replacement. I do know that they’re hinged at the front. An image search on Google may turn up some helpful pictures.

Matt,
The Group A cars use what are essentially a standard body shell and panels - this includes things such as sills and hinges - so your Group A racing car has the same hinges and door mechanisms as the road car - they don’t have all the standard door trim, nor do they always carry the window winders -
The boot lid and bonnet (hood and trunk) are standard panels, too. I’ve been looking around but haven’t found a pic yet - check google and also look for the BMW enthusiast type web pages - owners clubs and the like - they’ll have pics for you - and they’ll also have a link to contact them - you could ask someone who owns one - you’ll ALWAYS be able to get an answer from someone who loves their car. Give it a try.
Thanks guys, I thought it would be stock, just checking… found a couple of pics on ebay motors, im going to keep looking though THanks again!
