Blued metal

Modelers, I’m trying to simulate the inside of the burner cans on an F-89. Pics show this area to be metal of some kind with blue discolorations from heat. How does one simulate this? The main problem is the blue is not throughout. That makes it somewhat difficult to reproduce. Any advice would be appreciated.

You might try “Burnt Metal” or “Stainless Steel” metalizers followed by dry brushing with very thin blue. Blue chalk dust would also work, but not as well as some careful dry brushing. Might want to follow up with some flat black or dull coat.

I used Tamiya acrylic Clear Blue over my NMF to create this effect. Using the small needle on the airbrush applying one layer at a time . The translucent blue hue worked well. Coupled with the Jet exhaust color, I was pleased with the reults on my F 104.

I’m not really a “jet” guy, someone who is probably has a more advanced technique-

maybe a bit of aotake and clear smoke combo will do the trick.
Be warned it is an educated guess…never tried it…

I’m with Crockett on this one. I have used the same technique on the rear end of an F-100. Turned out really well. You can use the metallic shade you like as a base, then lightly airbrush the Tamiya clear blue over that. As the stuff is semi-translucent, it blends nicely into the metal color underneath. If I had a digital camera I could show you [:(].
