Hey guys, I am getting back into building after a rather long dry spell.
I am currently building the Monogram Blue Angels F-4J and have a question regarding the painting of the Sidewinder missiles. On several reference photos it shows the front two painted blue, and the rear two painted yellow, however on some other photos it shows all four painted yellow. Does anyone know if there is any significance to this? I am not sure which number I will be building it as, but want to make sure I have the missiles painted accurately. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
I have seen photos where the plane is either not carrying Sparrows at all, or they all are blue. The Blues flew Phantoms for six years, so it is possible that they flew with different color configurations during that time. Thanks for the links. Yes, thats what I was finding too. All different arrangements including no missiles. I am trying to figure out if there is any significance to what they had hung on the racks. I didn’t realize they flew F-4’s for that many years, so maybe it was just a different configuration for each air-show season.
Well, after reviewing every photo I could find on-line and in my library I could find no rhyme or reason to the various arrangements and coloring of the Sparrow missiles on Blue Angels F4s. With that, I decided to go with what the painting guide in the instructions listed. Here is the final product:
