Since were having such icy weather in my part of Texas, I can’t do any final coats or the like on my other projects. I told my Uncle I’d build him an in flight BA Hornet and now is as good as any other time to start. Chopping the gear doors and placing them in the up position wasn’t hard. Filling the huge gaps is going to be fun! Also, I’ll be painting the inside of the canopy like a desk top model, so no slow down on detailing the cockpit. Movin’ along, singin’ a song. Megadeth/Train of Consequences I think it is…[:D]
Very cool in deed and no pun intended…[:P] I am sure your Uncle will enjoy the build and I am looking foward to the updates.
Which number are you going to dress her in?? By the way, I have not forgotten to reply to your question concerning my possible “what if” build… I am still brain storming…
PS, sorry about your luck w/ the weather… In the last few days we were hit with ice storms as well… Sucks doesn’t it… Just think, Summer is just around the corner, which corner I do not know…[%-)] My luck the corner would be rounded…
I think I’m going to make it one of the solos. These R/M Hornets were not made for gear up display, so there’s a little work involved. I got the doors up and applied a little putty.
Looking great I love the angels, and meet them all last summer. I have a question though, I have a HECK of a time with the decals on my bird, especially the underside of the wing with teh lettering. Did you actaully decal those or is it painted? cause you seemed to do a rather impressive job. I take it that that’s the RM version as well. But man, nice job, that plane always gives me chills, makes me wanna do another!
Thanks for the kind words. This is mt 4th one of these(R/M B.A.), so I’ve got a ritual as far as the decals go. For the underwing, I always slide the paper from under the decal, starting from the fuselage out. I make sure there’s plenty of water under it so I can position it when done. Then I press the water out with small squares of paper towel and dose it with Micro Sol. Give it a few minutes and then I use a very sharp blade to trim the clear film out of as much of the decal as I can to aviod silvering. More M/S to make the decal form to the irregular surfaces. When you’re done, then you photograph it from a distance to hide the imperfections.[:D] Hope this helps.[:)]
Trick photography huh? Kidding, thanks for the tips, looks great though! maybe I’ll have to try another, my other had a bird hit the canopy…or something like that. But it cracked and has been put in the salvage yard… But I did love that kit, great job!
