Blue Angel F/A-18

Just complited as a comission this 1/48 Revell F/A-18. I used the kit decals which were kind of ok, needing tons of Solvaset to settle them down. In retrospect, aftermarket decals would have been a better way to go.

The paint is MM Blue Angel Blue and Blue Angel Yellow enamels with several coats of MM enamel clear and lots of polishing with Simoniz Swirl and Haze Remover liquid which left a super smooth finish.

Ooooooohhhh… Pretty!!!

Thanks gents for the nice comments.

The finish was a bit more work than the usual military flat coat. The orange peel had to be polished out to get a smooth glossy finish.

Very nice finish!

What process did you use to get rid of the orange peel?

My Hellcat has it bad.

Thanks. Make sure the paint has dried for at least 5 days or longer before polishing.

I used Simoniz Scratch and Swirl Remover to lightly polish with soft cotton t shirt pieces.

I’ve heard that Maguire’s Scratch X is very good for this process.

Awesome job PJ! Great work as usual!

Thanks, PJ. Seems to be what everyone says. Guess that’s the way to do it.

Nice job PJ. Did you polish it for that finish?

Nice low drag ! [H]

Thanks gents!

Several coats of MM enamel clear gloss over the blue. Then lots of polishing with liquid swirl remover .
