Hey Sal , glad you got the “Killer Egg”! I’ll keep diggin’ around down here to see if I can find more!
And the AH-6J does have specific bulkhead and insturment panel (plus armament) that is unique to the kit.
Take care brother , and GREAT PIX !!
Jon,
Never did see any Apaches in Mog or any other part of Somalia. I did see plenty of Cobra’s (AH-1F??). A little known fact is the support they gave on day two of the Black Sea battle, to the relief convoy. My favorite Cobra story was back when I was attached to a Combat Control Team in the old tower at the Kismayo airfield. A convoy of technicals was inbound and we had several Herks on the ramp. The Belgians were elsewhere protecting a food convoy, so the local 10th Mtn Div CC launched the QRF Cobra’s. The skinnys ran for the hills when they saw the Cobra’s coming, and the snake drivers blasted away with TOW’s and 20mm. The funny part is the ass-chewing the Cobra crews got for expending expensive TOW’s on unmanned “cheap” technical vehicles. You gotta laugh! Anyway, it was one hell of a show that we got to watch from the old control tower, but I’ll tell you one thing…we were seatin’ mags, and stuffin’ HE rounds in the blooper tubes. Oh yeah, we also had Italian Mangusta’s operating in and out of Mog. They also escorted some of the Italian convoys to Giallasi (up North). To my knowledge, they never fired a shot. The Cobras had occasional action the entire time I was there. Let me know if you want any more info.
Jeff,
Yeah buddy I was more than pleased.[:D] You really outdid yourself there. The beret is on the way, along with a couple patches (I sent it out last weekend). More to come in the future along with the beret device (I only had one and I needed that for my headgear. I’ve ordered another one which I’ll send to you as soon as I get it). I knew about the little bird differences but what I was wondering is if the DML kits had the same basic parts in all their H500 kits [?](T-tail, round cockpit glass section). I’ve got enough pictures of the panel (FLIR controls, radio deck between pilot-copilot seats, etc…) to scratchbuild those. BTW, I love your forum handle (LUPINE). Very Alaskan, and since that’s where I’m stationed…I’ve had them howling at night while in Moose camp and it’s pretty wild to say the least.
Next project is talking Cobra Company in to making 1/35 & 1/48 aircraft skis as seen on all Military Helo’s up here in Alaska. They’re great for the snow, even better on the tundra, and make for quite the unique and interesting model. Is anyone else interested? I may post this question on a seperate post. I’d include some pictures of our HH-60’s but I’m still not sure how to do it…duhhh[D)][D)]
Hey - I’m looking everywhere for that AH-6J Littlebird by Dragon…you said that your local hobby place has at least one, and they could send it no prob. The guy with the dio has first dibs, but do you think you could give me some info on it? Thanks a lot dude!
Laterz~
oh, and best of luck to that cool Black Hawk Down Diorama…if you’re into pc games, you’ll love Novalogic’s Black Hawk Down - flat out awesome!
Sorry, to react to some replys earlier about motorizing the helo.
Many years ago (when I was about 12 y) I built a huey from Revell Germany, this kit was motorized.
When the motor was switched on the whole thing vibrated rigouroly.
What I’m trying to say is that you should make a choice, either motorization or supporting it. I think you will get in trouble if you support the kit AND motorize it.
The problem is that our models are designed LOOK like the real stuff, but the parts are compared to real one way heavier (in wheight) and certainly not balanced.
