This one is not QUITE finished…I need to install the lights/lenses, a few stickers yet, and find/reattach the horizontal stabilizer thingy on the arresting gear. Another day or two. However, in Honor of the Pittsburgh Steelers and their AFC Championship win this evening, here it is:
This is the new Hasegawa “F” Bug with a Black Box cockpit. The decals are a mix of kit (Squadron markings) and Hobby Decal Dry Transfers which are the subject of another article (Almost Done Dave!).
I used FOD covers from Steel Beach, and the “Patriotic Rhino” design is a custom ALPS decal I made from a photo I took last summer at the PGH airshow, of a VFA-103 FOD cover.More later on that. Pastels to lightly weather her to match photos I have.
I have been waiting for someone to do this one!.. I have wanted to, but the price leaves me gasping for air… Great job, I havnt seen better!.. The weathering is spot on!
Thank You Chris! I’ll post more pics later this week when it’s finished. I’m about to start the “E” from Hasegawa for an article, so we’ll see how they compare!
well chris here is something you can think about try the revell f-18 e hornet. its just as good as the hasegawa and is half the cost of it. nice looking bug you have thier jkelely
I have thought about that mate… But I have this fetish for 2 seater aircraft… I know Italeri did a Growler version… But I want to get the A380 out of the way first, and then I might look into it…
Anyways the model displayed above will be a hard one to beat!.. I love it!
Man…that’s one beautifull jet. I’m surprised there isn’t a miniature terrible towel somewhere. I’m really impressed and glad that you tastefully weathered the model. Too many poo poo’s on panel shading lately. I think it looks much more appealing weathered. Great work!!!
Nice work - and from a fellow pittsburgher I appreciate the Steeler pseudo-theme. As far as the Revell kit, I’m currently working on the Revell Germany E super hornet and it is a world of pain - a regular seam-filling and sanding bonanza is approaching and I really ain’t looking forward to it. For some reason, most of the kit fuselage and wing parts and not mating up nicely at all. Hopefully it can be salvaged. Anyway, great looking hornet! [;)]
Very, very nice! I hae this kit, but due to a small accident with some lacquer thinner, I am going to have to buy another [B)] Hopefully my second attemp turns out looking as good as yours, but I doubt it [;)]
Thank you one and all for the nice comments…!! I appreciate the encouragement.
With Regards to the Revell “E”, it is indeed a great deal of work, due largely (IMHO) to the soft, crappy plastic used. However, it CAN be a nice model when completed…you just need to know you’ll have earned it! Mine turned out OK, and is on my website. You can see it here:
Nice Hornet JK! You really did a great job. All around a fantastic build. I just finished the Revell Hornet and as soon as I learn to post pics I will put it up. Again great job
Thanks Guyz!! IPMS, I can’t wait to see your Revell “Bug” photos! Looking very much forward to them…Eddie, you’re right on baby…If I close my eyes, I can smell the JP-5…and taste it, too!!
It looks great! Another guy who weathers with pastels - me too! I love pastels. How was the kit? Any fit problems? was the BB cockpit? Did you run into any fit problems. I’ll watch for more pics.
Thanks “Gunner”! Minor fit issues, as with any Hornet. The BlackBox office is a work of art. Has a large casting plug on the bottom, though…had to grind it all the way down (up?) to the floorboards to get the nosewell in. Otherwise issue-free.
