"Black 4" FM-2 of VC-13, USS Tripoli finally done!

Finally, a non-blue color schemed WWII USN plane. Had to wait forever it seemed for the non-cuffed replacement prop to show for this one. This was made from the 1/48 scale Sword FM-2 kit with corrected non-cuffed propeller from Meteor Productions, AM decals from Techmod, and a few add-ons like needles for the additional upper and lower antennas and bead wire for the radio antenna.

Was a little liberal with the Tamiya X-19, but during my research found a number of these Dark Gull Gray and White, Atlantic scheme planes very weathered as such. Actually used a light gray marker after painting to accent the panel lines, using a Q-tip to diffuse the effect. I was somewhat pleased with the results.

This is the last plane for me before the big move into the new house… we close Thursday… cannot wait.

One last pic. This FM-2 rounds out my Wildcat collection. Starting top left there’s my F4F-3S Wildcatfish, to its right my F4F-4 Wildcat, and, of course at the bottom, the FM-2. I’m throwing in the towel on Wildcats after this. Too many other planes to build. [:)]

I love that gray camo scheme! Very nice work. The staining is very convincing. Great job Quagmyre.

Looks great, nice change of pace on the color scheme!

Looks good I always liked the atlantic scheme.

Beautiful cat Quag, The atlantic scheme is really cool.

Any special marker? Think that technique would work with raised panel lines?

Well done! Love the scheme and you’ve done a nice job with the weathering. [:D]

[:-^] Really nice work! I really like the grey scheme.
Cheers,
Eric

Beautiful. Great job on the build!!!

Fantastic work on the Wildcat! The paint work is excellent as well as the weathering. I like the rest of the collection, too.

Yep, she looks really great! I love the scheme and weathering. I like your kitty trio there as well. One of these days I’m going to do a Wildcat in Joe Foss markings. Great work.

Zig Memory System Writer I picked up at an art store one day. Has a 0.5mm tip at one end, and 1.2mm tip at the other. I believe the color is officially platinum (maybe gray?). As for working on raised panel lines, yes. I have a green one that I thought would work well on my OD Monogram B-25J, but the colors were too different (marker was very green, where OD finish was more …well…olive) to look realistic.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Very nice build. You captured the Atlantic scheme well. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Great looking Cat bro-- thanks for sharing!

I’ve always been partial to the Atlantic scheme. Looks great.

Very nice builds, all. And congratulations on the new house!
