I’m working on my 3rd Ch-46 from “HC11 Gunbearers Det1” I have my decals made just like in the photo in this link

Now my question is this, what would be on the rear tail, the VR w/ lighting bolts. Most photos I’ve seen with the Gunbearers have the VR on it’s tail, photo link,

I have a few photos of the Phrog with the flames, unfortunately none of the pics have any tail sections. Anyone here have any infomation and willing to help, Thanks much…
I don’t have any info that would help you out, but I would like to wish you luck with some very cool and challenging markings. Those are some great looking machines.
Sorry, Joe.
I’ve only got 3 pictures of that particular bird and the only one that has the rear rotor in it is at such an angle that you can’t make out the markings.
But, if I were a gambling man I would say that it more than likely has the lightning bolts as it was photograghed about the same time as the American flag painted bird. Just a guess.
Hi Joe,
I think that the helo with the flames was a Det 5 bird, based on what was shown on the Navy’s image archive in the photo caption. The shield above the cockpit has “Det #” across the bottom. The only nose-on shot I saw was from too far off to tell for sure.
The tail should have the VR and the lightning bolt but the bolt might be in the subdued markings - I’d seen photos of other HC-11 helos with them in some shade of gray.
Take care,
Dan
Thanks Guys, I knew that the markings would be subdued but wasn’t sure about the markings themself. So it’s a safe bet to do them…well them I’m going for it.
Dan, about the Det #, I’ve came across a few articles w/ photos clamming both Det # number 1 and 5. When looking at the first link you’ll see that the number is painted over. Again thanks for the replys,
Joe
