I searched and found an old thread about bicycle kits. Does anyone have any new info? I’m looking for modern road bikes, like in the Tour de France, but I guess any bicycle kit would be fun.
My other alternative is scratchbuilding one, luckily I kept all those empty parts trees, the frame is pretty well set to build! I was thinking of pillaging an old Model T kit or the like for spoked wheels.
When I was stationed in Korea a few years ago, I saw a few modern road bike kits made by Academy. I haven’t seen them anywhere here in the States though. Academy had a bunch of weird sets over there; like a 1/10 drum set and other odd stuff.
If you are just looking for any bicycle kit, Tamiya and Italeri(?) have German Troops on Bicycles. Maybe you can use them to modify into something you want?
back in the 80’s there were some (then) modern bike kits in maybe 1/10 scale, could be the Academy ones Gino memtioned under another name, possibly Nitto. To get them up to modern race bike standards would take some doing, including fewer spokes, more aero wheels, slick tires, reworked handlebar, higher number of gears on the freewheel, repositioned shifters and possibly different geometry.
Using Model T wheels would look very odd on a modern bike. There really is no way to get them to look like modern 700mm wheels and rims. Same with the Italeri bike.
I was at my LHS this morning, and saw a Trek mountain bike with roof racks. It was 1/24 scale. The website is www.militaryhobbies.com. Send an email asking about it.
Thanks everyone. I’m a drummer too, so I’ll check out the drum set kit too. Thanks for the leads (especially the link…I’ll tell your LHS they owe you a commission…good luck with that).
i’ve seen that Academy set of bikes from a seller named stvb on ebay. i got a bunch of motorcycle kits from him here n there. but it looks like his selection of things in the ebay store is getting less and less.
Protar is the company which makes the Tour de France bicycle kits in 1/10 (possibly 1/9). They are tough to find, and expensive. I have seen them on eBay from time to time.
