Bf 109G-4, 6./JG 52, "Yellow 3" (1/32 Pro-Modeler)

This is the Monogram Pro-Modeler boxing of the Hasegawa 1/32 Bf 109G-4. Painted in Aeromaster and Gunze acrylics, EagleCals decals and Eagle Parts resin spinner, only other after market were some Eduard pre painted seat belts. Really a nice kit to build, no problems at all other than the ones induced by my twelve left thumbs.

This plane was flown by Fw. Hans Waldmann in June 1943 from Anapa, Russia.

Wow, Mike, great job on the G-4.

Goodness, where do I start: outstanding paint job and weathering, great photography and the insulators on the aerial are a nice touch.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your impression of the EagleCal decals?

Thanks for the comments! You cannot go wrong with EagleCals, they’re printed by Microscale so the quality is great and Jerry Crandall’s research is pretty much flawless. The instruction sheets are full of useful information and a reference in themselves. Can you tell that I’m a fan?

Wow you really have mastered that airbrush. I am still trying.

I did not know there were Bf-109 G-4s, I thought it went from G-2 to G-6

Anyway, great work, amazing finish.

Mike, that is TREMENDOUS! The finish is flawless. Out of curiosity, what airbrush did you use for the mottle?

Another stunning 109 from your bench Mike, you are a serious 109-a-phile! You mention your 12 left thumbs, AAACCCKKK! Sure doesn’t look like it in the photos. That really is a gorgeous build.

And I second the kudos on the EagleCal decals, they really are that good!

I use a Peak C-5 airbrush. Supposedly an Iwata sold under a different name.

Brilliant. Looks so real. What’s the story on the two stripes behind and next to the number 3? Never seen that before.

Thanks! I believe the two spots is where some previous markings were over painted. Waldmann was a member of the Gruppenstab prior to be assigned to 6. Staffel so this aircraft probably had a chevron and number applied previously.

How do you guys get your antennae wires to look so good?..I really like how detailed they are…I can’t seem to find a reference. I get the wire portion, but the attached areas are superb.

Hutch, I use some stuff called EZ Line for the antennas, really good stuff. It’s kind of flexible too so you won’t break it if you accidentally bump it (like stretched sprue). I just use a drop of CA glue to hold it in place.

Thanks…I see you probably use a drop of white glue for the insulation, but I like the way you depicted the connections to the aircraft. Thanks for the tip on the EZ…I have seen references to it, but have not experimented with it yet…again, fantastic job on your 109…

Hi folks!

I´m from Germany and located in Waldmann´s hometown Braunschweig.

A few years ago I met the man who wrote the book “Gegen vielfache Übermacht” Mr. Gerhard Bracke.

This book is about Waldmanns live and his career until his death in the spring of ´45.

I won´t put your great model down, but it has two main mistakes, maybe you can correct them.

At first, the rudder. It wasn´t yellow, it was white!

The next thing is to find in the dachshound.

I suppose you´ve used the decals from Eagles Cal. This sheet has two main mistakes.

At first the dachshounds eye. It was round and the pupil must be an triangle, also the necklace was in red.

A very good picure ist to find on page 106 in the book about Waldmans live Mr. Bracke wrote.

As I know only the Peddinghaus sheet No. EP 816 shows the right personal emblem.

Thanks for your comments on the build.

In regards to the white rudder, is this based on a photo? White rudders would be very uncommon on an Eastern front aircraft and I don’t think I’ ve ever come across a photo of a plane from JG 52 ever marked in this way.

Very impressive work…only thing I saw was the internal seam of the supercharger intake—in that scale you should have no problem filling that in…[Y][Y]
