BF-109 vs. P-51D (need feedback)

This is my first attempt at a diorama. It’s 1:48 scale and the only thing i havent’ completed is finishing up the outside of the box. Tell me what you think.

sorry for the blurry pictures.

from the pictuers,it looks prety(sp) good.my guess is there would be more damage to the port wing in such a landing, such as it almost being ripped off & may be more skewed.good luck keep going, the most important thing is that you be happy with it no matter what any one says.[tup]

It looks good, but if you want I can post some pics of real 109 shot down if that helps you,or look here http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/index-1024.php
They have alot of real shot down 109.

Looks very good so far, I have always wanted to do a diorama like that. I have a couple of older Bf 109 kits that might be used for that purpose.

Hey-- is this one based on the Stan Stokes painting of Big Beautiful Doll?? If so-- looks preety good… if not-- it is an amazing coincedence bro. He has one of the Mustang flying over a town and below you see a German plane (it might even be a 190) crash-landed in a field.

Well, this was my first dio so i guess you could say it was sort of an experiment to “show me the ropes”. I learned a lot from it for my next diorama. I know, it isn’t totally historically accurate, but i just had p-51 and bf-109 model kits and decided to not just build them, but to do something more with them. So, thanks for your input, and i’ll keep you posted on any changes i make.

p.s.- no, Jeeves, i’ve never seen the Stan Stokes pic you are talking about with the plane shot down. Happen to know the name of it?

Err… Big Beautiful Doll [;)]

Here is a direct link…the crashed plane is just left of center, to the right of the river in the field between the houses…you can see the skid marks of the crash starting just left of the church steeple.

Pretty cool dio nonetheless bro

Looks great! Especially for a first one!! I have one question and one comment. How did you suspend the P-51 in flight, is there a wire in the tree? And the one comment is that there seems to be alot of “dead space”, or space where there is just nothing there. Something you can do is just put a bush or rock or debris there to fill it in. The muddy patches help, but it is not enough. That’s just me being nitpicky though. Looks great!

Looks good. Nice composition, too.

well, to fill that dead space, i did have a 1:48 scale tamiya kubelwagen ordered so i could have a german soldier or officer coming to pick up the downed pilot, but the website i ordered it from obviously didn’t have their sh*t together, so that’s the reason for the void in the middle.

Oh, and as far as mounting the mustang, i just went to the hobby shop and bought a fairly skinny plexiglass rod (they may come in packs of many, depending on what kind you get). The rod goes from the bottom of the base to the underside of the p-51.

I have to say that was pritty ambitious of you to do on your first try. It is really good, and I envey you on acomplishing something this good on a first try. Keep up the good work and maby someday well see you building models for Tamiya, or even more helpfull Revell of Germany. Have you guys seen the built prototypes on there boxes Yuck!

pretty nice for a first try. keep it up. One question: how come the 109 is kinda perched up on the mud?[%-)] is a part of plane holding it up? I’d think that the plane would have settled a bit more into the soft earth. But I don’t know. neways cool dio![tup]

looks pretty good to me.

Great job on your first dio, brandon.

I like how you suspended the P-51…shows good action.
Are the landing gear on the 109 partially retracted?

Dan

be proud…especially on your first effort…most ambitious…
most excellent rendering…dios are my favourite in the stirrings of one’s imagination and the telling of a story…
ya got my attention…now 'splain how you did it all…
and thanks for sharing…

Brandon,

Real neat job on your first diio. Looking real good. Keep up the good work!

Richard

well, this was actually an art project. hehe. I had built model aircraft for years and then i decided to try a dio. My Advanced 3D art teacher let me go for it…

and about the landing gear… the right strut is extended but the left one is folded under the wing so you can’t really see it. I’ll take a pic of the underside if you guys want to see it.

thanks for all the positive feedback. [:D]

Like, wow, man. That’s cool.

A very nice peice of work, thanks for the pics.

Looks pretty good to me mate…
