Bf-109/Tropical 1/32 - Finished pics

Hi All!

Just thought I’d share some pics of my newly finished 1/32 Bf-109/Tropical. It’s pretty much straight out of the box - which was a Monogram Pro-modeler version I picked up on Ebay recently. A fairly decent model, actually, but it had the feel of a Hasegawa model from back in the day. Dunno if that makes any sense or not? There’s one missing piece for those of you with sharp eyes and a serious knowledge of 109’s. LOL! I glued one piece on incorrectly and didn’t realize it til later.

I weathered it slightly with some weathering powder, just enough to make it look slightly used and abused in an arid climate. Unfortunately, I had a piece of that rubber-ish non-skid drawer liner sitting near my workbench and set the model down on it a couple of times. It left some kind of a sticky residue on the model just aft the wings on the bottom. I cleaned the model before weathering but it apparently didn’t come off and when I applied the weathering powder, the marks popped out (you can see them in the bottom view pic - looks like a series of little polka-dots on the bottom of the fuselage just aft the wings). This steams my clams…but it would not come off…Oh well.

This is my first model in about 26 years and there are definitely some things I forgot about in terms of good model building [:D]! Whew! The pics aren’t the greatest but my photo studio was not set up for macro work. Anyway… I am now off on construct Hasegawa’s P-51D in 1/32…

Very nice job rowen… very nice indeed.

Missing piece huh. Let’s see… wings, check…prop, check… tires, check…fuselage, check…is it the brace on the front of the air cleaner? Or a missing cover onthe small openening under the left wing by the leading edge? Did I get it? Do I win something?[swg]

Rowen-

That is very sharp looking '109. Really makes me want to pull mine outta the box and build it. Great job! [tup]

Don’t wait so long between builds next time! That’s a beauty you;ve built there!

Wlecome back to the hobby, that is a great start! I think that your photos are good, and the 109 looks great as well. Thanks for sharing!!

Matt

Very nice work on one of my favorite 109 paint schemes. I’ve always loved that color combination. [tup]

BTW, where are the mounting braces for the air filter? [;)]

Very, very, very nice clean build. Makes me want to go buy one.

That excellent work for your first model in 26 years. Your paint work on fuselage is very nice. soft line with in scale spray on look. the weathering is pretty good as well.

Wing-nut,

Yep, the brace on the air cleaner is missing. I missed it in the directions and glued the filters parts together and at a 90° angle from where they should have been. The glue was dry before I realized the mistake. So I filled on the holes with putty and sanded… sigh.

As for the cover on the small opening under the left wing…this I do not see in the instructions? No parts left on sprues either? Hmmm…

Your prize is a free copy of our newly released CD. PM with your snail address [:D]

Actually, it make alotta sense… this is actually a Hasegawa kit boxed by Revellogram/ProModeler. [;)]

She looks [b]gorgeous[/b]… your first build in 26 years? I dunno what your older stuff looks like but I’m inclined to say that you haven’t missed a beat, guy. Nice, nice, nice…

Fade to Black…

Really[:O] Cool. You know I was only kidding …right?[;)]

Wow- very nice work!

You sure you’ve not done this for 26 years? Maybe 26 days? [;)]
