I’d like to get input on preferences on a Bf 109F kits, detail sets and decals that anybody would recommend. This would be my first Me 109 build, and there is sure something about that aircraft that grabs my attention!
Scalefly you can’t beat hasegawa for a great 109 kit in either 1/48 or 1/32. Since you are taking F hasegawa does not make any F varient in 1/32[:(!]. Any of the eduard photo etch detail sets work great. also I just recently got a aires masters cockpit set for the hasegawa F-2 i’m doing. I haven’t assembled it yet but wow the detail in this thing is great and it comes with a photo etch insterment panel and other goodies. It’s expensive (almost as much as the kit) but it should build up into a excellent, very accurate, high detail cockpit for an F.
If you have not worked with this stuff before you might want to get a eduard Zoom photo etch kit. This usually has alot less to work with and still gives the enough to make a good busy cockpit without all the other stuff you may not want, less expensive too. Since most all of my 109’s are hasegawa I don’t get around to many of the other manfactures much, I’ll let the others fill you in on them.
ICM 109’s are relatively inexpensive, but fit and engineering leave a little to be desired. They’re still good builds for the money.
I just finished a 1/48 Hasegawa “F”, heck of a great kit! [tup]
I used some Eagle Strike decals for a winter scheme on mine, went down a treat and looked great.
I saw that 109 of yours, Frank. One of the nicest I’ve ever seen, and the winter camo is just amazing. Expect a lot of questions from me when it comes time to paint my Russian Airacobra in its winter colors. [swg]
You are dead-on accurate with the Aires kits Phoenix! I am just weathering and finishing an Academy F-86 on which I used an Aires cockpit set and its great! The Me 109 is next, and I’ll go ahead with the Hasegawa kit, everyone seems to rate them pretty high. I’ll get some pictures up on the F-86 and the Me 109 once I get rolling on it.
WOW! Thanks a bunch Mike! When you’re ready to do that one, I’ve got a NEW technique I’ve been practicing that will knock your socks off! Wish I had thought of it when I painted my “F”. [sigh]
I second, or third, (or whatever number we’re on) a big thumbs up for the Hasagawa 1/48 series of 109’s, and Eduards for their excellent PE sets.
Hi Guys - Another 109 lover here. Can you give me a link to Franks “Winter 109” ?

HAsegawa Bf-109F-2
Thanks for the link Frank, and very well done on the F model!!. It gives me inspiration to do the winter camo again, as I did a few years ago on a Do17z. I have in mind to do a 109G in Hartmann’s scheme on the Russian front.
