I’m 53, started building at around the age of 6 or so, in fact have a pic of me as a youngster holding a unpainted curbside type , I believe Pontiac, in my hand. Stopped off and on over the years as other things distracted me (girls, cars, girls, girls, more girls and oh yeah, full size cars again, at 53 some things can get you in more trouble than it is worth).
Last time I left was when I was about 34 or so, started restoring a few cars (currently building, through the summers a Factory Five 65 Daytona coupe- what you see as my pic is a 68 Shelby gt350 clone I did a few years back).
Before this last break I spent months, even years at time, making what I thought was the best, most detailed scaled model ever, often building a single version and trying to replicate the appearance as in the photos I had. Resulted in lots of time, frustration and cost for all the photo etch or resin additions I did. Now those same models are obsolete, although they still stand up well and in fact a few I recent took to local show that I never took to a show earlier, still manged to get 1st, 2nd and 3rds, even best of show and peoples choice in some categories; However, this time around I am doing it for fun. New modeling techniques have often added the details I used to add myself and the kits initial cost has increased accordingly.
Sure I want to make a great model, and indeed I think I have, but now relying on what comes in the kit and what I can scratch build or create on my own. This time around I decided I just want to have fun. And even though I don’t want to spend the big bucks, things like panel lines, as I originally started with in this thread, are things I can control. I want to thank EVERYONE for the feedback and assistance with this and hope to show you my future completed kits, which by the way cover all facets of modeling, from autos to anything and everything else (keeps you challenged-used to aircraft or armour? Try building an auto with a glass smooth finish, not custom mind you, just glass smooth-or try your hand on ships or whatever you may want. Happy new year everyone. John
