Best Panther?

I’ll have to agree with the general consensus. I can’t comment on Tamiya, as I haven’t built their panther, but I have a DML and an Italeri. Italeri is going to my little bro to practice on. 'nuff said about that [:)]

Good ol’ Aber has a super-set of detail parts out for the Dragon D/A Panthers. It’s roughly equivalent to the one they put out for the Tiger. It has something like 6 brass frets, a metal barrel, wire, and the little wood jack block in it. It will detail either of the A’s and can even be used to model a late vrs early D model. It is truely for the insane or masochistic! (Yes, I have one!!) It sells for about $60 internet ($70 retail) and it’s part number is 35 k02. Good luck with your Panther’s. I’m Panthered out, and my next tank will almost definately NOT be another one. They’ll have to wait until I do something a little different!

LOL, Roger that! I think to US tankers, ANY dead Axis tank was a good thin. I have the Panther D on the shelf, waiting to be built. Should be fun!

Ron

I hate this thread!!!
Now I have to order the Panther from Dragon and the PE set from Aber, and I don’t have the money for neither of them. But I have no choice I just got to have it. [:D]

monrad;

Here’s a little more salt to your wound! This is a link to a review of Aber’s super-set for the Tiger. The one for the Panther is very similar. (Just so you know what your in for!! lol) I probably would have never gotten it. I received the Panther set as a birthday gift from my wife.

wipw! Are you trying to bankrupt me. Now I also have to get a set for my tiger kits.
Do they make a set for the Tiger II ( King Tiger ) I know they make a set of PE for it but do they also make a set with the barrel included for the Tiger II

Sorry, I don’t think so. At least I haven’t seen one. Just the 1/35 Panter and Tiger and the 1/16 Tiger ($200 for that one!!). Some of the guys in the Tiger 1/16 build used that one!)

There really is a lot of stuff in the 1/35 kit. My problem is that I can’t decide if I want to use it on my D or early A! I may try and get one of the GumKa sets for the D for about $12. Then I’d used the Aber set on the A. Eduard also has two sets out for the DML Panthers. One for the A and one for the D. All kinds of choices out there, but so little time, money, and patience!! lol

Good luck.

Monrad,

While we’re at it, don’t forget to super detail that interior! (there, even more money spent!)[;)][;)]

Ron[:D]

I can’t hear you LALALALALALA I can’t hear you LALALALALALALA [:D]

No seriously. what is the best interior detail set for the Panther. I won’t be using it on the next one, but I might build an interior model in the future.

Verlinden do a interier set for the Dragon Ausf A late

The Tamiya’s are easier builds than the Dragon’s though. You can spend more of your time painting and weathering it instead of construction. The Tamiya G’s are very nice too. Don’t bother with the Tamiya Panther A though. It’s only good as a toy.

Edog, I have started my Panther and am loving it! Great fit, great detail. I have ordered some engine screens for her, which is as far as I am going with PE at this stage (baby steps!). One thing… my barrel is a bit of a dog too, and it may be a bit beyond me to get it to look right. The end is good, and it matched up alright, but it was a bit flattened even before I started sanding. Any suggestions for a replacement? I can get Jordi Rubio stuff fairly easily, not sure about other brands.

This is an open question of course! How is the barrel on yours jimq?

Matt

OK, it took a while to pick my jaw up off the floor but I think I’m better now…IT’S JUST NOT FAIR! YOU GUYS ARE TORMENTING ME! JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS OUT, YOU PULL ME BACK IN! The evil Aberworld of PE and your stinkin’ turned barrels and your lousy indy tracks and, and and AAAARRRRRGHHHHHH…
I GOTTA HAVE IT! I GOTTA HAVE IT!
Maybe the bankruptcy judge will appreciate the fine detail of my builds.[;)]

Just how I felt when I read it . I don’t know how, but I just have to find the money to get that stuff.

I’ve lost track of if you’re doing the Dragon or Tamiya G. Sorry. If it’s the Tamiya, Eduard has a georgeous barrel out for it. I got one accidently a few weeks back. (I asked my 13 year old son to put an e-bay bid in on a Firefly barrel, and he bid on one for the Tamiya Panther G instead.) Since I have both a Dragon and a Tamiya steelwheeled G, it was no big deal. I don’t know if it will fit the Dragon kit or not.

Ausf:

It’s not we who are pulling you back. It’s the darkside! Once in, there is no escape!

monrad It’s still not to late for you! Runnnnnnn!!!

Phroosh,

I have only purchased two Eduard barrels. One was for the Tamiya Panther G, and one for the Tamiya Tiger 1. Both were superior to anything I have seen JR produce. I am not a fan of those case white metal muzzle breaks; they usually require a LOT of cleanup. However, I believe that anything would be better than that thing that Dragon supplied. I have also been meaning to try out Aber’s new barrels. I believe they have one for the Dragon Panthers. Anyway, my first choice for a barrel would be Eduard.[:D]

Go with an eduard barrel, it’s one piece. The Dragon’s gun may not be the best, but atleast it is one piece. It’s really a nice kit for the money. My biggest knocks are lack of pe grilles and poor tracks. I bought Tamiya parts to replace them. They ended up costing more than the kit itself! Silly isn’t it?

I don’t know how they newer ones are. I built one of the older “70’s-80’s” panthers that I got cheap off of Ebay…and was severely dissaponited… there was nothing for the space bettween the hull and the uper part, so there was a big whole if you looked from a slight downward angle…

Quick update on my Dragon Panther Barrel…

Went with the Eduard one, owing to all your recommendations. By the looks of it, I should be very pleased.
