Could you give me some sugestions about where you model?
What’s the best place to make models…
When I’m in the kitchen, it’s to warm, the paint dries to quick.
In the porch, it’s good in the summer or spring, but to cold in the winter(like now).
So my question: what’s the best place in the house to make models?
I got lucky - we just bought a house that has a study for me.
Lots of shelves, great light, and a great big desk. Everything I need.
But I have to make sure I use the spray booth to keep from stinking out the house.
I lucked out. I have a third upstairs bedroom. My family calls it “the model room” a hallowed area. No cats allowed I have 4!. When we moved in my wife was not happy when I “appropriated” it with out consulting her first! But I set it up so fast she didn’t have the heart to have me change it.[:D]
The basement seems to be the choice of many. It makes sense - no one really uses that space, ours is unfinished, so some paint and glue odor is not a big issue. I’m designing a paint booth to get paint fumes out, they do get up into the rest of the house.
My area is a small, small area, about 6 ft X 10 ft, but I have a HUGE desk, so lots of room to s p r e a d o u t.
I use one of our spare bedrooms as an “office” of sorts… all my compuiter gear, the routers and switches… and the modeling desk of course! I live at sea level so a basement would quickly become a swimming pool… haha…
it’s separate, in the back of the house and no one complains except my puppy who has to know where I am 24/7!!!
In a midlevel loft (my first floor is double height ), It’s off the main stair and totally enclosed.
it’s all of 6’ x 12’ and pack with as much stuff as possible (including the boiler and water tank)
My garage has this sort of nook, workbench is there and I use a small “office” heater to keep it warm…when it is hot the garage door is open so I have plenty of ventilation
Right now I’m building planes above the garage in a studio-like bonus room. It’s attached to the house so it’s heated, well lit, but it’s very drafty this time of year given it’s on the West side of the house. Can feel the cold air coming under the base trim from the un-insulated garage below. Owners of the house I’m sitting use it as an art studio. Quite apprpo for my modelling I thought. Has satelite TV, stereo, treadmill, fridge, microwave, and own bathroom. Not a bad setup.[:)]
This will last until construction on my new house is complete. At which time I will move into a basement.[:(]
Ideally the best place is a well ventilated and well lit place in my mind. Away from pets and unsupervised kids. I’ve got some work to do on that basement.
Spare bedroom that has it’s own heater, and ceiling fan. It does the trick. Plenty of room, and I have one of the largest paint booths ever built for modeling (gonna need to scale it down eventually to tell you the truth I got a little out of hand! lol) No cats allowed…but my girl is allowed anytime to show encouragement!!
I’m in the basement too. I works the best for me. Nice and cool in the summer and toasty in winter. The furnace is in another room in the basement where the compressor is as well. I use two tables ,1 just for smaller plastics, and spin around and roll to my other table for big projects like R/C and the such…
