my dad and i wanted to build a merkava. who makes the best one?
Tamiya makes a good Merkava 1. Academy has a Merkava 1 as well, a copy of the Tamiya kit. Academy also does a great Merkava 2 in a couple different versions. One comes with a mine roller and metal ball and chain armor for the turret rear. Academy also does a Merkava 3, but I have been told it is of the prototype and is quite different from the fielded Merkava 3.
The above are all in 1/35. No idea on other scales, not my game.
I’ve built 1 Mercava. It was the Academy Mercava ll. If I were to build antoher, it would be that one. I know nothing about the accuracy of it compared to the real thing. But IMHO, it made a nice model. It had metal ball and chain for the turret basket which for me was a BIG challenge. As I remember, each had to cleaned up some, length messured and each glued on. Could not turn turret after chains installed.
Of course, It depends how far you want to go. The others might not have the cains. Good luck.[2c]
