Best Kubelwagen kit?

Hello All,

Okay, I’m shopping for a big scale Kubelwagen and there are several makes and models out there. So far, I’ve found Tamiya of course, Verlinden, and Kirin, which I think is Dragon. But which is the best for detail, fit and value? [%-)] Thank you for your wisdom and experience. [D)]

Okieboy

Tamiya makes a 1/16 RC that I believe is under $100 including the radio (same as the ones they issue with their 1/35 Tigers). Seems like that would be a cool little bugger to be running around with your Tiger and Stug. I just saw in the new Squadron catalog that Revell has a 1/9 Kubel and Ketten to go with the BMW.

I have recently started one of the Tamiya 1/16 Kubels. The version I have is the Type 82 European Campaign, Tamiya model No 36205.
The detail and fit is very good, better than the desert / Rommel version, but as always at this scale there is room for improvement. I have added detailing to the engine and built a rack for the jerry can up to now.
In the UK it retails for £71.99 but for export it is £61.27. As we are one of the most expensive countries in the world, you should find it cheaper elsewhere. (I got it from the UK national show for £55.00 cash)
I have not seen the RC version, but I think that there will be a trade off of detail over RC equipment to keep the price down.
If you need any pics just ask.

I don’t think you would lose too much detail, Unlike the 1/16 tank series, Tamiya just adds the RC equipment to some existing kits like the 1/35 Tiger I. As far as RC, I believe it’s only a simple forward/reverse. right/left deal, no speed control. The only detail lost may be in the undercarriage.

Thanks guys,

I’ve researched the whole issue of whether to go R/C or not with a “support” vehicle, and the main deterrent to buying and building the R/C version is the issue of scale speed. The R/C kit doesn’t run at scale speed and it’s reportedly hard to control when your operating it on scale terrain. When I thought about the R/C version I had to take into account how it woud handle around 1/16 scale buildings, bridges and other scale features! Modifying the R/S version would require new gearboxes and a proportional speed control device, so I figured I might just build the static version and use it as a prop for my R/C tanks.

Ausf , I have to say that I love your signature box “I’d blitzkrieg a mile for a camel”! That’s hilarious.

Okie

Thanks, that came out of a very old ‘caption this’ thread. The guy just looked too happy in his panzer smoking.

I just found the original:
