Best F/A-18F kit in 1/48th?

Which manufacturer has the best kit as far as shapes and proportions go?

You might want to look at the Hasegawa. I liked it and would do another.

both kits have shape issues…mostly around the spine area.

I have built the Revell kit and have just started the Hasegawa kit. The biggest advantage the Hasegawa kit gives you is the flaps and slats are positionable…but, when comparing the prices…my LHS sells the Hasegawa for 70 and the Revell for 20…flaps and slats just don’t constitute that much money in my book.

I agree. I have a Revell kit on it’s way as we speak.

I wanted to build an F-18D Marine Hornet but I didn’t want to spend that much money on a kit.

I have both the Revell & Hasegawa kits in my stash… And to tell ya the truth, I’d go for the Revell kit…

When you compare both these kits… it really looks like Revell stole/barrowed the molds and well cut the price in half…( I think Hasegawa has some competition now…[:P])

I too agree w/ btp2k2!! Save some money and go w/ the Revell kit… If you feel really lucky, you can always cut the flaps and slats

i have built both of them and i like the hasegawa ones better. but like yall said you cant beat the revells pirce. aslo check out spurcebrothers.com they usually have some great prices on hasegawa kits i just got a f-18f for 55.00 bucks and then thier is old evil bay i got a d model for 45.00 bucks. the one reason i lke the hasegawa kits thier is all ways more decals and other stuff you can stick in the pits and on the plane.

If you do want to drop the flaps on the Revell kit, John Chung has an excellent article on carrierbuilders.net about how to drop the flaps and fold the wings on the Revell kit…

I have it bookmarked but it seems to be down at this time.

Hasegawa, hands down, bar none.

Revell hands down, bar NONE!

Sorry, just being a bit facetious Habu.[}:)] Seriously, the Hasegawa kit is choice, but for the pittance paid for the Revell kit (which is very nearly as good), the latter gets my vote.

I have to agree the extra money you pay for the flaps on the hasegawa kit is not worth it to me. But if price is not an issue and you want to drop the flaps, go with the Hasegawa.

haha, yes, well the question is which is the best, ya know. While the R/M kit may be good, it’s not the best. Definitely a case of getting what you paid for.

That should read, “getting triple what you pay for.” [(-D]

Triple what? Grief?

SO… Im getting that you want the Hasegawa if cost is no object. However, it’s RevelloGram if you have more sense than money.

Habu, did Revell steal your girlfriend? lol This isn’t a Revell kit of yesteryear. This along with the F-15E are both really really nice kits. I’ve seen both in the box and heard about how easy they went togther. The Revell F-15 is even better than the Hasegawa offering! I’ve noticed that Revell is getting way more detailed and better fitting, but keeping their prices the same. Revell’s making a comeback!

To the original question, if money’s no object, buy the Hasegawa kit. If you’re on a budget, buy the Revell kit. You won’t be missing much!

The 1/48 Revell F-15E is the best kit on the market…period!

I have not seen the Revell F-18F yet but I have one on the way from Tower Hobbies and I am sure it will look great when finished. There is no way the Hasegawa kits are worth what they charge and if another cheaper kit can be made into a good model then that is the one I will buy. I mean we are “modelers” are we not?

Looks like I might just have to pick one up then. I built the Hasegawa kit a few years back and was quite impressed with it. An even better one would be a joy to build.

The problem is there are many “model snobs” out there who believe if it isn’t from Tamiyagawa, then it must be crap. They think if it has that dreaded “Revell” stamp on the box, it must be bad…

I picked up the Revell F/A-18E over the summer at Michael’s craft store. I am getting ready to start it and it looks like a good kit. The only problem with mine was that the instruction set had a few pages that were completely blank. The instructions were easily downloaded from Revell so it wasn’t a huge problem.
