Best color for rubber tires and hoses

Wow… nobody even noticed that Mission Model Paints has a color called Tire Black.

Linden Hill also has Worn Tire Black as well. Both are spot on especially for aircraft tires. Flat Black, NATO Black doesn’t look too accurate for tires color. Too stark. Rubber you probably could pass for it but not without a little black muxed in. German Grey… maybe. I never use that color for tires.

Tamiya XF-85

Panzer Aces ‘new’ dark rubber and their ‘old’ light rubber. I paint the sidewalls light rubber then dry brush the tread dark rubber.

From 2013 and still alive. [:O]

I like Testors in the small bottle flat rubber. Has a hint of brown and to me looks like weathered rubber with that dark weird shade , not black or brown.

I still see new bottles in the rack occasionally, but they seem to run that color infrequently :frowning:

I find Tamiya German grey a nice color for tires.

Hi Pawel!

I use that as well as a mix of mine. Dark slate Humbrol with a drop of Deep Brown to do it. The Deep brown is an old Floquil bottle I have that is only a quarter used up.

You said the magic name, You wonder what gets into the heart of man to take such a thing off the market as Floquil was… Great paint, best seller and poof gone !
