I need a portion of a 1/32nd scale corsair for my Pappy Boyington fig to stand on (just the wing and cockpit portion). Any recommendations?

Trumpeter, don’t know if they’ll sell the individual part’s your looking for though.
If you’re not going to use the whole model, then I suggest the 21st Century Kit. It’s only $10 at Wal-Mart.
Cost is not a huge factor - I really want an excellent cockpit area however. I’m only going as far as the wing hinges on the one side and as much fuselage as I need to mount the wing stub.
The figure is 55mm, this is 1/32nd, yes?

54mm=1/32, but 55mm is close enough [:)].

Does anyone know if Boyington flew a F4U1D? That’s the model I am getting and I was curious as to what modifications might have to be applied to make it accurate.

Most photo’s show him in the -1A, although I’ve read VMF-214 also had some -1 models also.
Are there any glaring differences between the 1A and the 1D? I’m interested in specifically the cockpit and wing areas.

The sliding part of the canopy is the main external difference. The A had two additional pieces of framework on the upper portion of each side of the canopy, running paralell with the fuselage.
