I’m in the middle of painting my Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1/2 Corsair and it just occurred to me that I do not have any source as to the color of the oil coolers in the intakes in front of the wings! I have seen one built with zinc chromate paint and others are obscured by shadows since its rather deep inside. Be happy to hear from you guys!
I am not 100% certain that these colors are accurate as the aircraft in the photo has been restored, but this is the best photo of the oil coolers I could find:
A great resource for aircraft reference photos can be found here at Prime Portal
Hope that helps! [tup]
The one I have a photo of from the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston TX appears to be painted the same as the airframe, dark sea blue. I don’t know if that really answers the question since this particular aircraft is present day, not WWII vintage…
To Constructor,
Is the Corsair that you are building the tri color or all blue scheme?
Frank
PS Go GIANTS!!
It’s the tri-color scheme
Hi ,
Sorry it took a while,I didn’t forget you (work thing ) , you can go with white .
I have seen pictures in several books & magazines ,but it seems that area was sprayed
with white.
